SCCA in Los Angeles area

Does anyone auto-x in LA? I had my first taste of it today, albeit down in San Diego while driving a Ford Mustang GT. I'd like to take my car out at least once to try. I know MichaelBenz auto-x'd his TLS, but Indiana is far.

Anyone local into knocking over cones?

What?

I know BOTH of you, and you all don't know that I Auto-X? Here's the link to our region: http://www.solo2.com/

Chasing cones is fun, and also cheaper than running on the full-size track.

Well, me and Mario are going to Streets of Willow next month. This will be on the big track, and not auto-x. You have to wake up early, since we have to drive 108 miles and get there by 7-7:30am.

YES! Another SoCali PW-thread.

Scott & Dean - I'd like to pick your brains some time about auto-xing in this area. Boba on me!

I'm considering the purchase of an older Civic hatchback to practice/beat on for the cone-courses. Save wear and tear on the TL too.

Here's a question I think I already know the answer to, but wanted confirmation - after a run, I would see competitors spraying down their tires with, I'm guessing, water. Is this related to heat cycling of the tires? Keeping them from over-heating?

That's exactly it. Also, have you ever thought about buying built cars already? I get the monthly SCCA magazine delivered to my home. They have classified ads where people want to sell their cars. It's an idea.

Regarding meeting up, let's set up a time!

Most auto-x stuff is in fotana AAA Autoclub. You want to check out this site for autox.
http://www.solo2.com/ You'll see a lot of subies and evos..and civic ef hatchies that dominate autox

Yup, I'm a member of SCCA on that site. But I haven't been able to go to any events since February...

There's a good idea. My worry is that the car has not been put together the way I want it. To a lesser degree, I would be skeptical of build-quality (unless I knew the seller).

Great! I'm free every other Friday (not this coming one), but in September, I'll be off work for four months. I appreciate all the help and info you guys have provided so far.

The EFs were putting down some great times this past Sunday in San Diego (Qualcomm stadium). The Evos and STIs were out in force, too.

I saw a few Integras out there that made me wish I still had my old one.

I'll see if I can swing out there to watch. Do they allow ride-alongs if I show up the day of (ie, I don't pre-register)?

There doesn't seem to be much information on the day of the event:

If you bring your car...you can have an instructor drive your car with you in it, or you can have an instructor watch you drive to give you tips. You probably get 3 runs for $40..It's like almost a whole day event. They make you work and stuff...flip cones...the site gives a lot of the info. I don't think TL's well do well, but who knows. If your gona go all out on auto x...the civic ef is the way to go..cheap ...

Well, the event I'm going to next month is SpeedTrialUSA. It's not Auto-X, it's going around the big track. I think you'll be able to ride-along as long as you pay the insurance fee and bring your helmet, but I'm not 100% sure. Check their site!

I did one event yesterday. I think I ran for more cones than anyone else out there on corner-worker duty.

The only thing that gets me is the cost of admission versus # of runs you get. Three or four runs (in your class) for the day seems paltry. But, it's a different discipline than motorcycle-trackdays so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until I've tried it more than a few times.

According to SpeedTrial's website, no ride-alongs.

Maybe if I hide in the trunk... .. . ?

Oh, that guy? I hate him. Last time he came over to my house, my dog caught syphilis and my cat became pregnant. And he still owes me fifty bucks. I should be glad he didn't eat the dog though...

General question about the SCCA Solo2 events - given a consistent performing car and individual, are most of the tracks set up so you run approximately the same time?

ahaha, that's funny. well he's a known flaker kinda guy...

Solo 2 isn't consistent..It's all separated into groups.. Depeding on what mods are on your car...you'll compete in a certain group. Lets say you have a stock car. So stock class is called G-stock. G-stock group may run in the mornings at one event, and the next event they may start later on in the day...
G-stock is like for stock cars (meaning not modified..stock tires, not lowered..no engine mods..) You should go to a event and just watch..if you really want to know whats up. Watching is free...
I think there are other auto x courses..where you just pretty much run your car the whole day..which cost a bit more as well. The solo 2 is almost a whole day event where...you watch other people auto x and then wait for your turn...

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. I meant your lap-time, not what time of the day you run.
