San Diego folks

Ok so I need a recommendation. I'm doing research on Hotels.com and all those sites too, but I want to get an honest review from someone who I know won't lie or post reviews because they work for the company.

My family (Wife, son, myself, and possibly dog) will be coming to San Diego next year for about 5 days. We are thinking either March or April so hopefully the weather is fine.

That being said what hotels to do you guys recommend? is there certain areas that I need to stay away from? I really don't need a beach front hotel but maybe something near the beach (couple miles.) I might be driving as well we are researching what will be cheaper between air fare and getting shuttled around or driving from NorCal paying for gas and possibly paying for parking at the hotel.

Maybe I can find one of those rental vacation houses, if they even have that in SD.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Kevin

Which beach are you particularly interested in?
Which area for hotels?
What do you plan to during your visit? (also how old is your son and will you be bringing the dog everywhere, since I'm guessing that would factor into your activities itinerary)
What's your budget for the hotel?
If you end up driving, how far are you willing to drive from hotel to locations?

Mission beach I think it's called. I'm not sure what beaches are out there. I plan on going to the zoo and maybe sea world maybe go on a boat trip and whale watch.
My son will be about 8 months old so but the wife decided to keep the dog at the dog hotel in norCal. Money and driving is not an issue.

Have you looked at Tripadvisor.com? That's where I usually look when looking for hotels/lodging before I make reservations. Otherwise, I stick with the usual resort brands that don't disappoint: Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Starwood Resorts.

if you stay downtown you will be near everything your after. seaport village and horton plaza shopping. gaslamp and little italy for food/entertainment. also east village Coronado for the beach/shopping/hotel del coronado, you can take ferry to coronado. super close walkable for some to balboa park and the zoo. short drive to sea world.

Bringing this back up to get more ideas.

We are going to do Seaworld and the beach. Any recommendations? I looked into the Omni, it's telling me the one in SD is not available.

Moonlight Beach in Encinitas is a must see.

Go to Sunset Cliffs for beautiful coastline.
