1st Fix It Ticket...Need Help =(

Hey hows it going everyone!

So two nights ago I was driving home from school in my Honda S2000 and I was pulled over by the CHP and he gave me a fix it ticket for VC 27151(a) for modified exhaust. I have an Invidia q300 on the S when I got pulled over. So today I put back the stock exhaust back on and then when to the CHP station and they told me that they do not sign off on modified exhaust and told me that I would have to get it inspected by the state referee station. So I called them to see what the process would be and told me the inspection would be free but the certification will cost 108 and my heart just sank to the bottom.

My question is there anyway around this loop hole? Another question I have is that if I bring it to the state referee station would a stock exhaust with the resonator removed be a problem because apparently the previous owner removed the resonator.

I know this is not an Acura but any kind of help will be greatly appreciated and thanks for your time

Put the complete stock exhaust back on including resonator? I'd imagine that if you're going to a state referee station, they'd inspect the whole exhaust including resonator. If they don't see resonator, fail.

Might want to have it moved to Car Talk where you'll get more views and responses though.

Unfortunately there is no way around the $108 prices have gone up since the state needs money. You need to put back the resonator unless you want to fail the inspection. Driving with mods this is the risk we all take, sometimes you get by and you don't get caught and when you do you have to pay for it.

I initially thought if the decibel levels were below 95 then it was still legal. Guess not.

No. There are legal mods and there are illegal mods. The legality of some mods, like tinting windows, vary state to state while others, like aftermarket HIDs, are just plain illegal.

Yep, have to put it back to stock. Depending on the referee, he/she can be very strict.

I thought you can get the new exhaust ref and get a certificate to show that this setup will pass because it is under 95dbs.

Go to the state ref in Rio Hondo college, real cool dude. (I had 3 of those things in my old car, plus countless fix it tickets for tints and no front plate, lol)

Can you get it signed off if the exhaust is 50 state legal?

Check with another officer to see if you can get it just signed off. It doesnt have to be with CHP to sign it off right?
