The J32 Mile per Gallon Official Competition!!
The J32 Mile per Gallon Official Competition!!
Gas prices are at an alltime high, and climbing. Which is unfortunate, because it digs into expendible income that could be used for modifications. So in essence, the entire ordeal is an atrocity. But, let's try and have some fun out of it!!...I've thought about a little competition we could hold for a little while. It's about seeing who can get the most miles out of one full tank of gas in their TL. So what do you say?! Let the game begin.
Rules for Entry in MPG Competition:
-Must have a J-series motor for entry.
-Must post a snapshot of the trip readout.
-Must fill the tank up completely.
-No Cheating (adding gas).
I'll post the first entry. Managed to get 355 miles out of one full tank. Could have gone a little further but decided not to.

yea man i was getting 32mpg at 75-80.... when i went to fl last year with nothing in my trunk...i go this year with a system in my trunk and it dropped like crazy...sad to say.....now who gets what if they win?
I usually get 16 mpg but last night I tried to not rev the engine at all. I was just driving in suburbs mainly so I never went much above 50, and I tried to shift all revs at or before 2000 rpms. I got about 23 mpg...I am going to try seafoam soon so I'll see if that helps.
Wish I would have seen this post before I drove to work this morning.
I have an 07 TLS 6MT.
This weekend we took a 320+ mile round-trip during which I got 31+ MPG going a steady 72 MPH with cruise set, AVG MPH 66. No pictures to back it up, sadly since I didn't know I'd be entering a contest, so you'll just have to take my word.

I don't think this contest will yield any accurate results....
Almost none of us drive highway only, mostly mix city/highway/traffic. Plus all the factors like extra weight, tire pressure, foot/ego size...this just leads to another mpg thread.
PS In my 08TLS I've noticed whether I drive like a grandpa or spirited the difference is minimal.

Maybe I'm a little
but I track my mileage at every fillup. Looking back at my records, I do show that in March I got 369.8 miles on a tank. It was almost exclusively highway driving. In the year I've had the car I average just about 285.5 miles/tank.
I apologize that I can't carry the numbers out to any more decimal places, that's as far as the odometer goes

I've been able to record ~407 miles to one tank going from San Mateo, CA to about Rowland Heights, CA area (give or take a few miles). Usually average about ~70 mph. The grapevine eats up gas like no other. Gotta love the 5 (err I-5 for non-cali people
)

It's going to be tough to compete for two reasons:
1: Some of us do mainly city driving and there's no way we can get 30mpg / that many miles out of a tank.
2: Some of us can't keep our foot off the gas .. lmao.

In order to put down good numbers for this competition you will need to be on the road sustaining 55mph to 70mph. I think it's possible to see some getting right at 400 miles per full tank of gas.
This is more of a MPG one. This was over a long trip I had taken. On my road trips I am able to get about 510-520 on a tank. On my daily driving I am able to get 400-415 on a tank with an average of 26-27 MPG

I don't understand why everyone is so floored over a 400+ mile trip on one tank. Doesn't anyone travel long distances in their TL? Granted, the city mileage cuts into your MPG, but if you are doing all highway, there is no reason not to get 30+.
If I hop right on the highway, put the car in 6th, and peg the cruise at 70, I can easily get 31 mpg. With a fuel tank capacity of 17.2. I could easily fill up with a couple of gallons to spare and still have traveled 465 miles.
I travel 130 mile roundtrip just to get to the office each day, so I had better know a thing or two about maximizing gas mileage!

I got 460+ on a tank coming back from Upstate NY to MA. I actually got 399.9 before the "low fuel" light came on then took it another 60+ miles before filling up, it worked out to 29 mpg. My J32 is in a CL though, do i still get to play?
Mine is close to black_label, a CL-S that went 465 miles. MPG worked out to 33.1 which was 75% hiway at 70 plus 25% getting to the freeway through town. We dont have trip computers in our CL-S's so tough to verify. Maybe an honerable mention!
I've hit 500 miles a few times on one tank. Usually was getting about 490 - 495 before I'd get scared once the MID says 0 miles remaining and I was still 20 miles to the next exit. Cruise a long trip at 5 over the limit and mileage rocks. Once I get to 80mph, mileage drops a bit.
My TL can do this, too!

Not that I condone one emptying their tank down to the vapors, but is the ultimate goal of this competition to have either:- the highest MPG, or to
- get the most miles out of one tank?
This is an MPG pic, coming from a car show and had to make sure I would make it home, empty pockets at the time, lol.

Actually kept going further with that little gas but 2gallons netted 72miles.
I really should change my name to "Always on Empty" I never have more than 6 gallons in the tank.

Anyone else fill up at this point? How many gallons?

The car can fit 17.5 gallons of gas, so that means when you hit 0 it should have 3 more gallons left in the tank, that would be your reserve.
