When locking the doors, why does it beep the second time you press the lock button within 2 secs of pressing it the first time?

 

to let you know if your walking away?
Lights go off?

Dont know real reason.

Let me tell you why. If you keep pressing it, and you DON'T hear a beep, then something's open. If it doesn't beep, go back and check your car. I always make sure it beeps, and if it doesnt, you know that either your trunk, or one of your car doors isn't closed. So thats why it beeps, to tell you that you're allowed to walk away. Otherwise, you're just locking the doors that are closed.

 

But couldn't they have set it up so that it would beep the first time you pressed the lock button? That way you'd know straight away that something's wrong.

 

I always make it beep like 10 times lol

Well i do it to test distance. See how far it will reach or how far away i can hear the beep.

 

You can disable the beep if you want to. But I like the beep and always make sure I hear it to make sure my TL is armed.

 

yup. i always listen for the beep, but sometimes i don't hear it and press lock again.. then the alarm goes off! i guess its the other factory alarm kicking in? happened a handful of times already.

 

Check your owners manual, the little book inside the big black book the dealership gave you . It is truly a good idea to read the entire book, it saves you from posting here. Also a good salesperson would've gone over most of this stuff with you already.

 

That's actually not a good idea. The more often you hit the button to lock the doors, the more likely you are to cause one or more of the locks' motors to burn out sooner. Happened to me on my last car—for some reason I can never remember whether I locked the car even if I heard the beep (probably because I do it without thinking about it), so I would hit the button again to be sure, and that causes the locks to engage an extra time.

The beep rocks and sounds nice. Unlike my old accord that would honk at me the 2nd time. That was annoying. I wish there was a way to make it beep the first time. Then I wouldn't have to press it twice.

 

Yeah, i just wish there was an option to turn the beep on for the first press of the button. Since there is a way to turn it off, I wonder why the engineers did not make a way to turn it on for the first click. Couldnt have been that much harder to design or program.

 

When you click the button once and the lights i.e. parking lights and indicator, do not flash, you know that something is not closed; that is if you are looking at your car. I guess the audible indicator is for people who walk away without looking while locking their car.

 

do you know you can put the remote under ur chin (touching ur chin) and use your skull as a resonator/antenna to increase remote distance? try it i ain't kidding.

I may be wrong - just ask my wife - but I thought the beep confirmed that the alarm was set. The alarm is not set when the doors are first locked.

 

 

Your wife is correct ... alarm is equally set either way. It's just a question of whether you need visual only (1 click) or audible (2 clicks) confirmation of that fact.

 

This make sense. But does the alarm activate after the first click on the lock or does it activiate after the beep?

 

This actually has worked with my aftermarket alarm remote on my Camry. But only when you have a direct site does it works even better. Almost twice the distance. Why is this?

 

I always thought that the first click of the lock button locked the doors, and the second click activated the alarm. I guess I was wrong...

 

you basically used your head as an antenna for the RF signal that's all.

ive noticed that when i press the lock button once and then wait a few seconds and press it again there isnt a beep.

 

 

wow i didn't even know such a thread existed. i heard this trick from a co-worker and tried it like 5+ years ago for the first time.
