Moonroof has lost its mind!! (2005 RL)

The moonroof in my RL doesn't know how to open or close anymore. The motor is fine, but the only way to get it to work is to hold the button then let go when you think it is closed properly. Pain in the butt!!!

This is the SECOND time this has happen. First time the dealer said they had to change the settings in the software or some such nonsense to fix it.

Has anyone had this problem?

If so, can you fix it yourself? I had to bring it in just for a simple fix.

Thanks,

--Stephen

Not quickly. Would have to take a picture and get the registration.

Why do you want me to do this?

I had that problem last year.
Its not a software issue, they need to replace the entire unit and you'll have to leave the car with the service department.

The moonroof just needs to be reset. I believe someone on this forum mentioned how it was done a while back. Reset is easy and can be done in just a couple of minutes.

I think the routine was hold the button until it opens and continue to hold it and count to three. Then hold it until it closes and keep holding it for three seconds afterwards.

My dealer performed that when the moonroof stopped working, but three days after it went back to not working.
The changed it for me.
Reseting pretty much work with the windows, which lose thier setting if not operated at all.

Just FYI, my dealer provided me with the following (but use at your own risk of course!)

Per the RL Sevice Manual, to reset the Moonroof Control Unit, follow these steps:

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Press and hold the tilt switch and turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Release the tilt switch and turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 four times.
5. Press and hold the moonroof open switch until 3 seconds after the moonroof is fully opened.
6. Press and hold the moonroof close switch until 3 seconds after the moonroof is fully closed (tilted).
7. Confirm that the moonroof is reset by using the moonroof AUTO OPEN and AUTO CLOSE function.

This also works for your auto up/down window functions should your car 'forget' after a battery change etc.

Just hold the up for a few seconds after it has closed and hold down for a few sounds afterwards. Do this for all four windows.
