SRS indicator light warranty extension

DATE: April 5, 2006

TO: All Acura Sales, Service & Parts Managers

FROM: American Honda Service Division

RE: Warranty Extension Announcement

On March 2, 2006, we announced an OPDS (occupant position detection system) warranty extension for certain 2001–03 3.2CLs, 2001–02 MDXs, 1999–03 3.5RLs, selected 2004 RLs, 2002–04 RSXs, and 2000–03 3.2TLs.

Some affected vehicles may have a problem with the OPDS that causes the SRS indicator to stay on with one or more SRS DTCs. To ensure continued reliability with the OPDS, affected vehicles have an extended warranty on the OPDS unit and the OPDS sensor. These parts are now covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Customer Notification

Approximately 480,000 vehicles are affected by this warranty extension. Notifications will start mailing on April 7, 2006, at a rate of 5,000 letters per day, and will span a 60-day period.

Even though the daily mail rate is quite large, it will have little or no impact on your service department because the only vehicles needing inspection and/or possible repair are those returned by clients with the specific complaint of an SRS indicator that won’t go off. For detailed repair, VIN, and warranty information, see S/B 06-008, Warranty Extension: OPDS Unit or OPDS Sensor Triggers SRS DTC(s) 15-1, 15-2, 15-3.

Thank you.

I love this site. Mine has 99,700 miles and it just popped on. I was sure I was in for a several hundred dollar bill (over and above the thousand dollar timing belt main) and I find this thread. Great stuff!

Pulled the code - SRS code 8-3 SRS unit failure.

Anyone know offhand which repair that falls under?

Tell me bout it, Mine was quoted as a $600 fix. Finally, I can get it fixed for free. I wonder if they would reimburse me my $80 fee i spent the first time around to diagnos the problem.

Just a heads up:
My light had come on in November or December. I had the code cleared and the light stayed off for months. I thought that was all it needed but it came on about 2 weeks ago. I just had my OPDS unit replaced this morning. It was free and it only takes about an hour!

Thanks for finding that....my SRS light just started acting funny recently...it was staying on for a little longer than usual then one time i caught it on while driving...but since then nothing has happened and its been working ok....

Saved that letter to file so if it does act up...im gonna take that and my new warranty extension right down to the dealership.

I am sure if we got enough people to raise a little hell against ACURA CUSTOMER RELATIONS, we could get something done. Who's up for a lil' hell raising? LOL, we should all get a document, write our complaints on it, and forward them via email & certified mail to headquarters.......whatcha think?

Well, in my opinion, we should think seriously about a complaint and compliance letter! Like I said, most big corperations dont take things too seriously, unless you "REALLY" get your point across. I mean hell, they replaced our trannies with another "POSSIBLE MALFUNCTIONING" tranny! Most of us should know, I have had 2 so far.............so when is enough.........enough? MODS, what do you think we could do?

How weird...my light came on when a mechanic was fixing my ABS and no one knows what's causing it...I've taken it to two different mechanics and neither one can figure it out. My Acura's a 97 though.

For those that paid to have it fixed.......

I had mine replaced over a year ago. I have not received a letter regarding this, so I called Customer service today and was told that they stopped sending out letters for this TSB, but were going to start up again. Luckily, my car is covered, so I was given a Case number and a street address and a fax number to send it to. Always nice to get some money back!

Just call Acura at 800-382-2238. They will check to see if your car is included and than they will assign a case number to you. After that its up to you to mail it in or fax it over. I just called today.

Is it correct that there isn't actually a TSB for this issue, just a warranty extension announcement letter from the dealership?
I haven't gotten a letter (yet?), but my SRS light has stayed on for the past month or so. (2001 CL-S 78k)
I'll call that number this week. Thanks.

What i have been reading here, its seems to be called a TSB, but maybe it was converted into an extended warranty? All I know is that my car is covered and I am (hopefully getting all my money back)

Not ragging on you, but in this thread it's only you who has called it a "TSB." I rang Acura, and they said just make an appointment with the dealer. No case number, no TSB, no letter, just a warranty extension....

Sorry read it on two other websites as S/B 06-008. But you are correct, too much web surfing for me.
