OBX or Comptech??

I want to get headers done soon...should I do OBX or Comptech? I just bought an 01 CL-S and have been spending every dime on it, so I am trying to budget my cash a little now. What are the benefits of spending the extra $$ on the comptech? Will I have problems with the OBX?

I had your exact same question about three months ago .. I posted 60,000 threads about this VERY topic both on this forum and the TL-S forum, and in a nutshell, here is what I learned:

1) obx resonantes 90% of the time ... annoys the hell out of many owners
2) obx quality (long-term) remains to be seen
3) OBX is great value, no doubt
4) Comptech is proven reliability, no wierd resonance noises
5) Comptech is best purchased used from someone on the board to save $$$

I finally bought a used set of CT headers for $650.00 shipped from someone on the Accord forum .. i love them. I would NEVER purchase OBX headers b/c i would go nutz w/ any unusual noises coming from the engine.

Best of luck

Lets clarify this a little. Most OBXs resonate but only for a brief second or two (between 2500 rpms and 3000). I wanna make sure that Matt doesn't think that he wil hear the resonation 90% of the time.

Doesn't bother me but it bothers some. I like the gains and so far they are holding up nicely. I agree with everything else that TL said. A great compromise might be a used set of Comptechs for 600-700 bucks. If that is still too much and you can deal with a little resonance then I think OBX or Stone headers are not a bad alternative.

Oh and one other caveat to the OBXs, might have to do a little work to get them to fit properly (my buddy had to do a little drilling to get them on).

what exactly do you mean by resonance? like noises from vibration? that doesn't sound too good...I think I will go for the used comptech's, if I can find some. Especially if the OBX might 'take a little work', since I will be paying a shop to do the install. If I can get some used CT's for 650 or so that would be perfect.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it.

If you've got the money, definitely get the Comptech headers.

Just get the comptechs and take the $$$ hit .. the install will go ALOT smoother .. and there will be no resonance..

Trust me.. if you value the luxurious nature of the sound of your engine .. sometimes even a little resonance can drive you up a wall.. and you'll start to expect it every time you reach that rpm in the powerband ..

Put up a "want to buy" post in the blackmarket forum here on this board, and on the v6performance.net forum.. i guarantee you'll find someone looking to dump their used CT headers w/in a month ..

I have OBX and love them. But I would have gone with the Comptech if I had more money to blow.
