Looking to buy...Acura TL transmission issue ...which year?

I'm looking to buy a use TL..probably 2007 to 2008. I know Honda had issues with transmission failures (and recalls) in their Accords, Ody's, and TL's. I tried a bunch of searches and couldn't find exactly which year TL's had the issue.

Does someone have link to some more info on this issue?

If the 2007 and 2008's had issues, then I'm going to go with my first choice which is a 2010 TSX.

Thanks in advanced.

06+ seems to be resolved. 07+ TL-S has a stronger RL transmission as well so it shouldn't have any issues.

I believe there was a recall on the 04 TL for an issue with 2nd gear, I think only specific VIN #'s were listed though
If you are looking to buy an 07-08 I would not be too concerned

I have an 04 with 90k on it and I have not had ANY problems with my tranny

Are you referring to all TL's or the type-S?

Thanks. That's reassuring. I sold my 94 Civic with 17K miles. My current 98 Accord has 178K miles. I plan on driving this car for at least 10 years. I drive about 15K-20K a year...that's also part of why I like Honda/Acura's...they just last.

Again, 06+ TL's have it resolved. The Type-S TL has a stronger RL Transmission.

Transmission

I have a 2004 tl (later model not recalled) it started shuddering between 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th under light throttle. I did a 3x3 fluid change and it drives like new.

the is really no hard data, but 90% of 3G TL's have great AT transmissions. The first few TL's off the Factory line needed an oil jet to ensure proper lubrication of the 2nd gear packs. After that the trans was updated to have the extra oil lubrication inside.

No hard data shows that the tranmssion design was changed after that, but it may have changed. I have seen very very few 2004+ TL's with transmission issues. People think that the 2004-2005 models have a glass trans, but that is not the case.

If you want piece of mind, buy an 06+ TL. If you can understand what I have said, your fine with any 2004+ TL, just be sure to change the fluid about every 15K once.

Mine is starting to have transmission issues. To be honest, I was not diligent in changing the trans fluid. It's 12 years old so it doesn't owe me anything as far as I'm concerned.

When I bought our 2005 Ody, I was more diligent after all the news about their trans issues. I've changed the fluid every 15K miles (once a year). I'll do the same with the TL regardless of the year. Trans fluid change is cheap insurance to ensure that it runs great for 200K.

Don't the 06+ cars have a 4 shaft design for the at where as the older cars have a 3 shaft design?
