2019 RDX Teaser Posted

Check out the new teaser from Acura (posted 12-20) for the 2019 RDX. It might help stifle some of the speculation....or not. And what is that gorgeous sedan shown on the page (and for half a second in the video?)

Here's a direct link to the YouTube video.

Cheers!

Only worry is the center dash. I hope it is not a top mounted shifter like the CRV.

I don't like the word "Prototype" in the sneak-peak video. They make it sound like what you see may not be what you get.

May not?
There's no way it'll look like that.

It's just going to be the CR-V with Acura front fascia. Too bad, too. I really like the way this prototype looks

Yes and yes, as well as a special 10 speed transmission. That’s all I am aware of, and of course, anything can change between now and the launch. Will keep you posted.

Can you please ask if they know if it will come in a plug-in variant?

Looks great and let's hope the production model will be the same.
Pano, turbo and 10AT are already a huge plus. This is going to be big...Acura can't f*** up RDX guys. It's like the 3 best sellers. I have a feeling interior will be similar to CDX with updated map and etc.

Anyway, 3 weeks to go! The count down has begun!

I hope they keep the prototype color in the production model along with ebony interior option.

OTOH, the 2013 RDX "Concept" revealed in Detroit in 2012 was almost identical to the production car.

I was really hoping that glorious red on the TLX prototype was going to be an available color when I leased my ‘15 TLX. No such luck. And yes, the prototype I saw at a car show in Dallas in early 2014 was pretty close to the production car. The red compensated for some of the inherent TLX design flaws.

Maybe they will save the fiery red color for the Sport/A-Spec/Type-S RDX version? I don't know why (other than saving money) Acura has limited options in paint colors and restrictions on matching interior color with those exterior colors? I wish Acura would provide additional color exterior/interior options along with accessory trim upgrades from luxury look with different types/shades of wood along with a sporty look like black piano satin, carbon fiber, and/or brushed aluminum. There was atleast 4X more factory accessory and aftermarket options for suspension, performance, entertainment, exterior kits, and interior upgrades for my 06 TSX compared to the TLX.

I would love for Acura to get back into the aftermarket game again!

Can’t disagree but the “people who are smarter than us” determined that there was more money to be made taking the conservative approach for the mass market. I’d love to see some fresh Integras , RSXs, Preludes and S2000s on the road. But since the conservative approach provides regular income, I guess the accessory makers have determined that Acoura buyers in general wouldn’t be interested so they’ve moved on. I miss my well-planted fun-to-drive ‘93 Legend. Sadly, or not sadly, but I see fewer old Civics and Integras with the body kits, primer, and coffee-can exhausts on the road - I guess the drivers discovered that you really do have to check the oil every 20,000 miles or so.

Edit: Looking at it more I realize that is not going to be the shifter. Next worry is the trackpad, in my experience those not user friendly.

It looks like the NSX dash and definitely no shifter.

Don't like the tablet screen but at least it looks more integrated than those floating designs in the Mercedes.

Maybe the Prototype might have a full digital gauge cluster that might integrate navi like Audi? Look very similar to the Chinese CDX dash; but, with a top mounted screen for the RDX...

Yes, even with the latest consumer reports customer satisfaction survey they have Acura at the bottom.

I've come to believe that there's a cabal out there that just hates on Acura no matter what they do.

These images of the RDX prototype gives me flashbacks to the TLX prototype. A prototype that generated great interest, only be completely dumbed down in the production version. Does Acura learn from its mistakes?

Any idea on the transmission shifter? Assuming buttons.
Tablet actually looks ok to me....esp the size and that it is not just sticking up over the dash.
Very hopeful for this vehicle....come on Acura....do it right.

I have a theory that much of the Internet hate for the dual screen setup comes from all the car review guys who found it confusing. Seriously???? What is confusing about it? Spend two minutes clicking around and you understand how to use it. I never understood the vitriol for the two screen setup.

That said - I'm not a fan of the giant bolted on tablet but it seems to be the way of the future (for now) so that's clearly what they need to do.

I agree...
we're all so critical.
It's a car! It does that part well...we rip it apart for all the other pampering bells and whistles we've grown accustomed to!

The dual screen layout is one of the reasons I bought the RDX. Another reason is the excellent powertrain. And I wanted something other than the Batmobile rear end styling of the CRV in that year. Styling is kind of "meh" on the front end. As cool as LED headlights are, that linear layout isn't great. Now if we can get Android Auto and LED-everything, they'll be onto something.

I love the dual screen. I am a bit of a techno-nut ( computer networks, home automation, etc) and the dual screens just looks high tech which is what first attracted me. After reading all the manuals from beginning to end, I also found the dual screen provides a lot of flexibility that isn't available in single screens.

Last fall I went to a large outdoor auto show in my city, and had the opportunity to sit in every SUV made (at least all the major brands). I just hated the tablets that were stuck on top of the dash. They all looked liked they were put there as an after thought. It was almost like if the customer wanted a NAV system they would just sit an Ipad into a docking port on top of the dash. Some of them looked very fragile sitting there, as if they would break off if accidentally bumped. I'm sure that these "tablets" also have frequent sun glare problems compared to the RDX with the built in sun shade. I also suspect the tablet may reduce forward visibility somewhat.

I had a Honda Tech friend tell me that the tablet style screens are much easier to replace if the are damaged/worn/old/etc then a conventional in-dash HU version. Kinda makes sense lol.

I sat in a 2018 Lexus RX350 recently and it has 1 large rectangular shaped screen that about the size of 2 of the RDX screens. It was more then large enough to display the Navi maps and the media info.
