2016 MDX Adv/Ent Sh-AWD 33K miles

It's been very hot here for the last 2 weeks and the A/C air is just a slightly cooler than fan air. Would this be a simple freon addition and is this covered under a warranty?

 

Should definitely be covered under 4/50 warranty. AC is a closed system, if it needs freon added, it means one of two things - you have a leak or it was never charged properly at the plant. Guessing the former or could be something else completely. Bring it to the dealer and let them sort it out.

 

Set the system to MAX. A/C by turning all three temp. controls as low as they will go. Make sure that all outlets are fully open. Drive at highway speed for 10 minutes or more. If the system is still warm (above 50 degrees at the outlets), there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

 

Place your air into recirculation mode (as opposed to fresh) for maximum AC in addition to doing the above.

The AC system requires a specific amount of refrigerant. Too much or too little and the system will not perform as it could. You may be overcharged or undercharged. You may also have air in the system. The best thing to do is take the car into a knowledgeable AC shop.

 

Get an infrared temperature gun and show us the reading. "Not cold enough" is very subjective. My cabin is negative 7.1 and it is way too cold for my pasengers. My passengers have to wear arctic parkas in my MDX in the summer and they always turn off the rear air.

My point? The MDX HVAC kicks butt. I am way too cold in the summer and I have to wear a hoodie in the vehicle when it is 90F outside.

 

I think where the vehicle has been parked influences greatly the perceived effectiveness of the A/C. If the dash has been getting baked in the summer at 110* for 9 hours there is a lot of heat soak going on, EVERYTHING deep in the dash is smoking hot including the ducting. It takes a long time to overcome that. If you're car has been in the garage all day then the A/C seems amazing. This has been my experience with every car I've owned.

The digital display you posted, indicates, the a/c sys. in your MDX is putting out 19.4deg.F air at the vents. If so, you may want to check the accuracy of your meter. Routine center vent output air temp., with a properly operating system, is normally, somewhere between 34deg.F and 40deg F. here in the U.S. Our car's A/C systems are limited, on the low side temp, by a thermo switch, which turns the A/C compressor off at around 34degF., to prevent the system from freezing up. At best, the system in my 03 TLS puts out 36Deg.F air at the center vent. The system in my car is fully charged, has new oil as well as a new receiver dryer. How i wish it was capable of 19.4deg.F performance.

I have 2 temperature guns plus a digital temperature probe. My temperatures recorded are accurate. I can make ice with my HVAC.

 

You lucky devil. I wish i could get my car to do that!

 

94 Deg. ambient 86% relative humidity, car driven 15 minutes @ highway speeds, in hot, direct sunlight. Measurement taken at center vent, with system set to recirculate, temp dial set to 60 Deg.
My car consistently produces 33-36 deg.F. air at the center vent. Just for curiosity, I tested a 2016 v6 Camry, a 2014 4 cyl Jetta, and a 2014 Cadillac XTS yesterday. The Cadillac XTS performed the best, yet only produced 37 deg. F. at the center vent. Please share your secret with me.

 

Now I'm tempted to stick a meat thermometer in my vents. lol
