With my Aspec I have been trying to figure out how to turn off the engine without killing the radio, phone, etc. Sometimes I want to hear out a story on NPR or the end of a song but don't want the engine running and wasting gas. On my TSX I'd just turn to accessory and the radio stays on. But kn the TLX everything is turned off.

in the owner manual it says that you can go to accessory mode but only with a shifter. With electronic the flow chart only shows the path from engine on to everything off.

Am I missing something? I should be able to turn off the engine but keep the accessory on, yes?

 

I can't speak if there is a difference between the 5G and 4G, but on my 4G, the radio gets powered off when you turn off the car. However, if there is an active call on the HFL, the call will stay connected thru the car until the call is ended.

 

Turn the engine off while in D. Worked for both my 15 3.5 and my 16 2.4. Leaves the car in accessory mode. Also keeps the blue tooth connection. This is assuming they haven't changed this for the 18.

 

Thanks for this. I have had the same issue since I started leasing my RLX SH in 2014. Acura keeps depriving me of "driveway moments". Now I know how to avoid it. Wish I'd known it years ago.

 

I tried that and it didn't work

 

Try depressing the brake pedal while pushing the start button. It kills the engine but stays on accessories. It happens to me few times by mistake

 

I do this at least 1x per day - just did it in the car wash to listen to tunes. Leave in D and push the start/stop button to kill the engine, while depressing brake.

 

I thought everyone just shuts off the engine and then hits the Start button once again (without depressing the brake pedal) to go into Accessory mode. Or am I missing something...

 

I don't think this works with the electronic gear selector. It works like that with the shift lever - Keeping it in D and hitting the ""Engine Start/Stop" button.
From the manual it looks like there isn't a path straight from On to Accessory for the models with electronic gear selector:

Yeah that's the flow chart I saw. No path but I'm going to try a few things. Letting the car go into engine idle does the trick though

 

On my 2015, I can put it in neutral and shut off the engine without the entertainment system turning off. Not sure how long it stays like that though. I think it shuts off the moment you press P.

 

You have to do car wash mode! Put it in N and turn it off within 5 seconds. Apply the parking brake since your in Neutral but as far as I'm aware thats only way to do it

 

Put it in Neutral, and kill the engine. That will give you power for I think 10 minutes or so, can't remember exactly.

Once you are done, just hit Park,and everything will turn off.

I do this frequently when I get calls from work on the way home.

 

This is power related question, so I hope no one minds me dropping it here. Does the accessory power outlet/socket, stay powered after the car is powered off (i.e. if I need to charge my phone (leave it in the car), while I run into the grocery store)?

 

It's weird, because the manual seems to contradict itself on this. It says the accessory power sockets can be used when power mode is ACCESSORY or ON, but also says to prevent battery drain, use the power socket only when the engine is running. I just assumed that socket would be dead if it wasn't in ACCESSORY or ON and battery drain wasn't possible.

 

I think what they mean is that power is available when in Accessory or in On mode, but because the battery isn't recharging itself when the engine isn't running, they don't recommend draining the battery by using up too much power only in Accessory mode.

When I'm waiting for the kids at tennis lessons or something like that, I often listen to music in the car with it on Accessory mode. It does continue to charge my iPhone when used like that. But of course it's draining the car battery all the while.

 

Tried this tonight. It worked! Thank you for preserving "driveway moments" for me, after 3 1/2 years with newer Acuras.

In addition: if you open the door, the tranny switches to "Park" automatically.

I wish it didn't do this. Lots of times I'm parking and open the door to check that i'm in the lines ok. Just something to get used to I guess.

Actually it will only switch to Park if you open the door, and your seatbelt is not latched. If you leave your seatbelt on, no issues. My routine was to always take my seatbelt off first, so it took me a bit to retrain myself when I park!

I once in a rare while use the local handwash place, and they really struggled, both for neutral, and when trying to manuever with the door open.

My work around the next time was to get out of the car, and latch the seatbelt on the empty seat. They can open, and close the doors all they want, the car will stay in whatever gear it was left in.

My Audi, and BMW did this; seems to be common on Euro vehicles. Since the socket is live, it can also be used to trickle charge, and I use that port to keep my Audi's battery topped off since it is not my daily driver.

None of my Japanese cars have ever had this, and that includes several Honda/Acuras, a Lexus, and a couple of Nissans. That port always goes dead when the car is turned off.

On the flip-side, all my Japanese cars had the garage door buttons continuously powered even if the car was off, while my euro cars kill the power as soon as the car is switched off as a safety feature if your car is parked outside.

In both cases, I prefer how the euro cars are setup.

I used to love this in my Audi, turning off car left accessories running for some time until you opened the drivers door.

 

The "putting the car in neutral then pushing the start/stop button" method works perfect. Never thought about this way before until someone here said it and I've had 2 TLX V6's and always found it annoying having to sit with the car running or turning the car off then back on without pressing the brake. Nice thing too is that with the electronic parking brake you just pull up on the lever and it holds the brakes for you. Nice feature when pumping gas and there are people in my car who want to still listen to music.

 

Realize it's a different model, but have not had any luck figuring out a way to do this in our 16 RDX Advance. Killing the engine in D or N will leave the radio on, but putting the car in P with your foot on or off of the brake pedal still kills everything.
