Okay, so regardless of OEM 5-spoke or Type S, from what I understand, both are 17 x 8" ET45.
I'm likely going to run these on a set of Type S repos.

Stock tire size is: 245-45-17

So, my question, as odd as it may sound, but what is the narrowest tire I can run on these rims comfortably, without issue?
For best winter performance (snow country), a narrower tire is preferred. I'm likely getting Blizzaks.
I'm sorta planning on a 225-50-17 if I can find them, but any of the below combinations are on the table.
Considerations:
225-50-17 (preferred)
235-50-17 (2nd choice)
235-45-17
(215)?

I'm also wondering if going with a taller (nubbier) 50 profile tire will create any rubbing issues when turning lock to lock?
Car is a completely bone stock '05 TL base (stock ride height).

I have the oem 5 spoke and I run a 215 55 17 no problem drives absolutely amazing

 

Get some accord 16's and run 215 wide tires. That way you have a dedicated winter set!

 

Anyone have a pic of a TL with these wheels on it? Can buy new (refurbished) set for under $400.

No issue with rubbing when at full lock? This is great news!

 

The 225 is your ticket, unless you get a narrower wheel, as a 215 will dome, making the sidewall harder (and you want softer). If you really want the best traction you need a skinnier wheel with a skinnier tire.

 

If you do go with a 215 go with a 55 to make it a little taller to make up for the difference. But he is correct on the skinnier wheel with skinny tire for the best traction.

 

Anyone running the new Pirelli WinterSotto Zero 3? Looks to be a new tire, and seemed to be rated very well in handling and wet weather grip. Good steering and control in snow and ice according to the TireRack test and they have a $70 Rebate right now. 225-50-17 size is available. Blizzak is not available in this size, but the Firestone Winterforce is, and I'm guessing that has similar Blizzak technology and performance?

Okay guys, I think I'm going to order the Nokian Hakka R2's in the 225/55-17 size.

I know this is a good bit taller, but from the comments I am seeing above, it looks like a 55 profile should work fine on a stock ride height TL.
So, I'm probably going to order these later today unless someone tells me otherwise.
If you think I should reconsider, please let me know now.
