Looking at an 2014 RLX Hybrid - Trunk Question

Hello,

I'm looking at a 2014 RLX Hybrid, seems like people that get them really like them! I'm concerned about the trunk space as I'm used to huge trunks! (Coming from an 07 MB S550) My question is, will the trunk hold two full sized luggage? As when my wife and I take trips that's pretty much what we need to fit in there! Would like to hear from someone who has actually tried this.

Thanks!

Kai

Not sure what you mean by "full size". The trunk is definitely smaller than in comparable cars, but I can fit three maximum size airplane overhead bin bags in my trunk (on their sides). Beyond that, I think you'll have to measure your bags. Better yet, take them to the dealer and test drive the trunk. Also, you should be aware that the back seat floor space is enormous. Also, best car I've ever owned (sorry, couldn't resist).

Thanks for the feedback, good to hear it will fit 3 carry-on luggage, but what I was referring to was the regular sized checked luggage (25"-27") that you would check and put under the plane, not the carry-on. I'm having a hard time finding the Hybrid model locally, the one I found is out of state, so I can't just take my luggage up there. I'd hate to have to put it in the back seat when we are taking trips.

While my guess is that you can fit two "full size" cases in the trunk until someone actually tries it no guarantees.

Another suggestion, you might want to contact the dealer who has the car and ask them if they can put two full size cases in the trunk and send you a picture for proof. If they want to sell you the car, it seems like a pretty small request.

You can also search for a thread I created when I was the first one to buy a Sport Hybrid.....at the time I posted a picture where I was able to fit 2 carry on bags and two medium bags [it was a tight fit] into the trunk.

I have yet to run short on space in the trunk for travel purposes, but full disclosure I am not packing huge suitcases in it. If I need more space that is what the MDX is for. I don't think my comment is very helpful, so I would recommend taking the suitcases you would normally travel with, and put them in the trunk of the car you are looking at to see how you would have to position them. That is my best and only advice for what ever that is worth. I just got back from a 350 mile trip and had plenty of space for our luggage from a few days away. I got 32.3 mpg too!

The key is soft luggage. :-)

I've driven from DC to Florida and back.

Four adults with all their uniform and kit, all of it in the trunk.

Soft luggage. :-)

If you're packing blue or white mess, then you will have to pay attention on your arrival. They won't be wrinkle free. LOL....

I tried the two suitcases and this is how they fit. The trunk lid closed without a problem, and there is room for some additional small items. The suitcases were empty, so you will need to take that under consideration. I would have to say that even fully packed, if you were to put them in the trunk as in the first picture it will not be a problem. Fully packed they would not fit as in the picture with one suitcase in front of the other, and the trunk lid would not be able to close. These are my suitcase, so you can be sure of the size: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I hope this helps you a little bit......
