Is the latter product the correct type of plug/connector that our 2G TL use that connects to the stock harness? I like this second one since it gives more option in terms of pig-tailing it to aftermarket ballasts...

They work the same way but the first one is Plug and Play to ANY aftermarket ballast using the 9007 & 9006 plug < Which are like 99.99% of Aftermarket Ballast.
I cant say since I haven't bought from HIDextra but just look at the plug, if the ballast Input Socket looks anything like these:
The Matsushita Universal connector will plug into those ballast.
I actually bought those Matsushita Universal connectors, If you want more clear pics of them I can upload them.
