TLX Depreciation
Anyone else disappointed by the value of their TLX? I'm looking at trading mine in for a new MDX. I'd be getting $3,200 off MSRP for the MDX, which seems like a pretty average deal to me based off what other people are paying. And then my salesman at Acura offered $28k for my '15 TLX V6 Tech FWD! He said he could do like $29k for the TLX at the most. Wow!! 7 month old car, 6k miles and it's depreciated $11k! I know new car value goes down a good chunk as soon as you leave the dealership, but this seems pretty bad.
A couple weeks ago I was offered $29k for my TLX at my local Porsche dealership, so this seems pretty average. Guess I've learned my lesson for buying a car from a brand whose sedan line is tanking. It's a good thing I like the car because I'm sure as hell not taking an $11k hit on my car right now. I don't remember my '09 TL value tanking like this, but maybe it did. Guess I'm just mad and need to rant about this lol. Have you guys gotten offers on your TLXs?

You may have only bought it 7 mths ago (hopefully you got a great deal since it was a 2015 model. I got mine 11/14, and it would have been even earlier if I didn't want AWD), but you are trading in a 2015 when some 2017 models are already being offered for sale.
It makes sense when you think about what the dealership has to deal with for the next buyer. Unless its a unicorn, no one is going to buy a 2015 vehicle vs a new one if it isn't at a substantial discount.

Are you saying you paid $40K (before taxes and fees) for a 2015 V6 Tech FWD? If so, that's part of the problem.
For comparison, I paid $36,500 (before taxes and fees) for a new 2015 V6 Tech SH-AWD. During my long discussions about buy back and trade, they were willing to go $32K on a trade for a new 2016. KBB puts my car in "excellent condition" at about $31K and change.
So it could be that your initial cost was too high, and your dealer may be low balling you on trade. Car dealers would never try to make the price too high or the trade too low, would they? 😁

Yeah if I could get a couple thousand more out of it I'd be happy. Just bummed it's that low lol. Going to Carmax to get it appraised tomorrow, doesn't hurt to see what they can do. If they can't do much better, looks like I'll be stuck with it for another year.

I bought my 2015 v6 tech PAWS with 11707 miles on it from a toyota/lexus dealer.I paid too much...30995.
I guess the previous owner hated the shifting and the vibration.New MXM4 michelins replaced the potenzas because I really need good wet braking.The difference in handling, on center feel and precision as well as noise,vibration and ride quality is vast over the stock tires.
I drive in normal almost all the time and after just driving the car 200 miles or so the transmission became much better behaved.
The local dealer was not so helpful re shift quality...As it sits I love the car and find it perfect for the mission I got it for...luxury rides about town for the girls and as an epic roadtrip machine.
Point being this...this car represents a lost acura customer...and after reading the forums AFTER I owned it I was horrified.I can't believe the shifting issue has not impacted resale value.
To me the car is perfect...but it has exhibited the behavior everyone posts about...firm shifting in the early gears, vcm vibration(in a very specific load/rpm range)I found everything tolerable initially until I had a moan that sounded like a bad front wheel bearing...and that was the potenzas.I enjoy WOT on ramp action as well as driving for maximum fuel economy and the car seems to love it.Economy mode is just dangerous and in that mode has exhibited delays in throttle response of 2 to 3 seconds FROM A STOP while trying to pull into traffic.
Local dealer said normal.

Thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about getting new tires as I've got something around 33,000 miles or so on my stock Potenzas, and the MXM4's were the ones I was considering. I wanted to keep the quiet but get much better traction. I knew the MXM4's would deliver on the latter, but wasn't sure about the former.

Used car market is depressed since new cars sales are booming and discounts on new cars are high, this drives used car prices down and thus dealers are willing to offer less. Considering Acura was discounting the 15 TLX by well over $6K further depressing resale.

Acura still held its own as a brand ranking at the top for luxury (with Toyota in nonlux segment) but I must agree that it is the sedan segment in general that is loosing out against crossovers in popularity ergo resale value. Quite a shame really but for those who still prefer sedans can still get quite a bit for their money.

I sold my 2015 Advance V6 FWD 15K miles a couple of weeks ago to Echo Park Automotive for $30K. This was after receiving an offer from Carmax for $28K. I was surprised by the much higher offer from Echo Park and didn't think twice about taking it. I had no interest in trying to sell to a private party.
After purchasing new at nearly full price and adding a pricey OptiCoat application, it was a big hit to sell but could no longer tolerate the tranny.

Thought we were talking about TLX and not Acura as a whole? There is no secret that the RDX and MDX is what keeps Acura relevant. 4gen (I currently own) and the TLX didn't do anything to help its cause. If I end up in an 2015 -2017 TLX it will be because the TL was totaled. Otherwise, its an MDX or wait and see how the 2018 TLX turns out.

That's unfortunate people are selling because of the tranny issues. I think it's a good car, just boring and nothing really stands out to accept the minor issues the car has. If you check used card prices you can find some SHAWD Advance for around $36k with 15000 miles on them. So yes the new delivery buyer is going to eat that negative equity. Hope you're hungry

black book in canada has my 2015 2.4 tech at between 27K and 29K trade in. against an initial MMRP of $40K. Not surprising. most Acuras at end of lease go back to Acura but dealers are obliged to buy a certain number (for much less than the original residual). Was same story with my TSX - in fact its trade in value was so low i did ponder handing it back to acura (it was perfect) and then purchasing it at auction.
Why I only lease new cars. Unless you know for sure you are keeping it very long term do not finance or buy a new car. Just a recipe for disappointment. Lease new, buy used.

I know it's a TLX thread but I have a 3 year old TL FWD Tech with 45K miles that I bought brand new. MSRP was shy of 40K. Current trade in value is around 19-20K, private party is 23K. No retail pricing since it's currently under stop sale order. That's almost 50% depreciation from the MRSP in 3 years.
Good thing I only paid 34K for the car.
For the sake of comparison, I bought a brand new G37 Sedan in 2009 with MSRP of 40K for 35.5K. In 2012 after 3 years and 60K miles, I traded it in for 20K after shopping around. I got an used 2009 370Z fully loaded 6MT with 30K miles for 26K.
I traded the Z in 2 years later after putting 10K miles for 23K. That was a great deal. I could have private sold it for 25K but it would take longer.
People always talk badly about Nissan/Infiniti resale values and how well Acuras hold their values in general. This is certainly not my experience.
Good thing I only paid 34K for the car.

that is the old myth i've been hearing since 20 years ago. but i don't think it applies for today's car market, especially the popular volume sellers like Accord and Camry. have you look at the used prices for slightly used Camry and Accord? only marginally cheaper than a brand new one. i'd put TLX in that same category. i'd rather pay $2k more for a brand new TLX than a one year old used version. the 20% is apply to dealer trade in value if you change your mind right after you drove off the lot and want to trade your new car in, it never apply to the used car price customers pay.

Ultimately, if you want to avoid the depreciation bite when its the worst, but still want a newer car, you buy something 2-3 years old. You have it yourself there in your example of your G37 was about 50% of its MSRP after 3 years. Your FWD TL is also about 50% of its MSRP after the same amount of time. (if it was an RL, that's a different story, those were much sharper depreciating)

That is why I leaned my 11 M37S and went back to leasing recently. I want a new car every few years and don't want to deal with depressed resale values.

That is why I leaned my 11 M37S and went back to leasing recently. I want a new car every few years and don't want to deal with depressed resale values.

I just recently breeched my 39 month 12k a year lease with my 2016 ILX Premium A-Spec in 11 months with 11'800k last on the OD. I wanted something bigger and quieter so I traded it in for my 16 TLX 2.4 Tech. My dealer had to buy back my ILX and gave me $26,500, which I believe is not too bad being that the car was $31'800 brand new. So it depreciated 5k in 11 months? Not too bad.
Now i see my ILX on their sale lot for $27,500 . Only a $1,000 profit for them.

Well, I tried to trade my 2015 SRT 392 Challenger for a Golf R last week. It was 51k new, they offered 35k! OUCH! Oh, to further insult me, they would not budge off MSRP on the Golf. Did much better on the TLX.

No doubt! If I was going that route again, it would be for the new Camaro. The Challenger worked good because I have kids and they actually could sit in the back reasonably well. Of course, I got that after selling my Evo X so yeah, handling is a joke in the DODGE and the main reason I am getting rid of it. Stops on a dime though and accelerates like no ones business. It actually rides really well and is fairly quite considering the engine and exhaust.

Me too. I even played the good will card and still got nowhere. Told them I would bypass the negatism for the right deal. Anyway, picked up my TLX last night. It was a little de3pressing with the SRT sitting right there beside it. Not much comparision on looks.
