Exclamation Yellow Fluid Leak (front passenger side)

Hello again,

I've noticed a fairly large bright yellow fluid leak, seeming to come from the front passenger side. I know fluid can run along various things and be misleading as to where they originate but this is all I've got.

There's no overheating, coolant checked (its blue anyways). Oil checked, haven't lost a drop since last oil change. Power steering looks like it could use a bit of topping up, but it's not crazy low.. maybe hovering over the lower line indicator, but steering feels fine ?? Breaking is also fine, however I haven't checked master cylinder... I know my ATF-DW fluid is bright red... so what can this be ?? Diff oil maybe ?? Can someone advise on immediate troubleshooting and precautions ??

I drove to walmart yesterday, was parked for 30 mins max, i came out and there was a small amount of fluid in the expected place... about the size of a small saucer.. the pics show the leak after the car has been sitting for a week.. help !

In addition, not sure if its related... a few weeks ago i started to hear the faint sound of pouring liquid when i start the car, the sound is only audible in the cabin.. if i leave it running and pop the hood.. I don't really hear it outside, but maybe the engine noise is drowing it out, it sounds like pouring fluid into a plastic jug almost... ????

I'm thinking it could be Power steering as i dabbed some on a tissue when checking and it looks sort of similar under the camera flash, but its hard to tell. what do you think ?? It's also low in the reservoir .. but again, steering feels normal.

That's a strangely yellow fluid! Pretty clean if it's PS fluid.
PS rack?

ck the windshield washer level?

Are you using A/C during these drives?

PS fluid sounds a tick low, use Honda ps fluid and raise to slightly below Max.
As long as it can make pressure the steering will feel fine.

If you can get under the car - ramps - peel back PS rack rubber boots on the ends. If fluid present you have a major problem = rack seals

Thumbs up

Appreciated,

You know I think it could be windshield washer ... I used yellow Rain X last time and I had to remove the tank spout a few times to access the passenger side bulb when changing a faulty HID bulb a few months back ... would explain the gurgling sound in the cabin.. I'm hoping it's that and not the P/S rack... my car is at 164KM and Timing belt/water pump are all I was hoping to dish out for.

Will drain the reservoir and see if anything changes... There's already no level visible, but the light is not yet on.

again, really appreciate the quick responses. Will let you know... pray for me !

Unless you changed the oils the only Yellow thing coming out of the car is Brake Fluid as its pretty close to yellow and most other fluids do not make them yellow to spot brake fluid.

Brand New motor oil is also yellowish but not that thin.
PS fluid is 99.9999% of the times transparent even Aftermarket with Leak Additives.
A/F is Blue (OEM) or Green and Orange for Aftermarket
I never seen window washer fluid in yellow color, Its like Light Blue or Light Green.

I am willing to say that is Brake Fluid.

It was a yellow Rain X de icer fluid for winter... i beleive, but you're right it's a bit oily looking too me, but maybe after mixing with dirt and stuff on the way down ??

Thanks for the info on the brake fluid, i guess i'll just open the master cylinder cap and it should be pretty apparent right ??

btw, I use full synthetic .. but I haven't lost a drop since last oil change.

Legends say about this white cold things falling from the sky, Some Californians swear to witness such event but us South-Californians just hear rumor's.

Yes there is no problem, The Min/Max level is marked at the reservoir case look it from the side.

Must be leaking washer fluid, only other BRIGHT yellow fluid is ac dye and that wouldn't puddle on the ground. Put blue washer fluid in and see if you start leaking blue, if you do you know where to start looking for leaks

Guys, How could you let me drown in my own denial ?? Windshield washer fluid would not sit on concrete like a heavy oil , I was skeptical when coming up with this windshield washer fluid theory, but the lie i was telling myself was so comforting.. hahaha...

I drained reservoir just to rule it out, still a slow leak..

I took it to a shop, seems like it's a power steering return line (low pressure) .. so 01tl4tl was right again ... I'm happy it's not the rack.

So PS fluid is indeed fairly yellowish. Thanks for the help, will update on the cost to fix etc..
