Help with harsh vibrating/pulsating passenger side wheel
Help with harsh vibrating/pulsating passenger side wheel
Hello All
We have a 2009 TSX 6 speed and last year the front passenger side vibrates/pulsates heavily when we are over 90km/hour.
The entire car is stock with OEM wheels and tires.
We have a separate set of winters, put them on and the same issue is still there. Therefore its not a bent wheel or tire problem.
Performed the wheel bearing/cv joint/boot test with the 3/9 o clock and 12/6 inspection of the wheels. No movement on either.
We researched and narrowed it down to the CV axle (passenger or driver) as other TSX driver's stated they had similar issue and even though it may feel like its coming from the passenger wheel, it may be the driver side CV axle as it is underneath our foot pedal.
Brought the car to several dealerships, one stated its the driveshaft...? and the other stated it was my wheels (which it is not as we before switched them out to test on our other set, however that particular dealership insisted it was the wheel/tire).
Any thoughts on what we can do? Go for the replacement of the CV Shafts (driver and passenger)?
Thanks for your help!

Did you try rotating the wheel that is installed at the location of vibration elsewhere in the car and test drive. Before you invest in replacing a drive shaft etc, you need to be sure to rule out the wheel issue.
Try an independent mechanic, not the dealer. They are often a bit more creative in troubleshooting, and not just part replacing.
Seems if it was a shaft / CV problem, you might be able to feel a problem if you put the whole front end up in the air, and slowly rotate each wheel, and feel for a vibration. You may not hear it if you only feel it at 90kmh. Turning the wheel as you rotate might increase the noise. Unfortunately, having the wheels hanging will change the loading on the bearings and things, so it may not act the same.
Also, while driving, does your noise come on at lower speeds if you turn left or right?

Hello
There is no vibration at lower speeds, only when we reach around 90km that the front passenger side wheel starts to vibrate.
There is a constant "humming" sound coming from the front passenger side wheel at low and high speeds.
Can this also be a bad wheel bearing as well?
Thanks!

Humming is often a sign of a bad wheel bearing (but can be a tire as my mechanic just found out on my other vehicle. He actually put another car's tires on mine, problem went away!)
Usually a wheel bearing will change pitch as you turn left or right.
