TLX MMC New Grille

TLX MMC New Grille
Have you guys seen the new grille on 2017 MDX?
You know they will apply it to TLX with MMC. My opinion only but it looks terrible. I think this is the last straw for me. I was hoping to upgrade to a futute Type S but just don't see it happening with the new direction they seem to be heading.

Here's a picture for reference. Looks interesting....doesn't look Acura, but I think in person may look alright.
As for me, I've recently had the front grille wrapped in black and love it.

Will have to wait and see the final production form on the TLX before passing judgment. That being said, I think the MDX looks much better overall.

I've been skeptical of the Diamond Pentagon Grille ever since I saw the Precision Concept. I think they should've gone a different route. Overall, I like the MDX refresh. Hopefully the grille will look better on the TLX since it won't be as large.

if it follows honda's pattern a facelift is usually a year prior to a complete redesign. probably we're looking at new interiors for 2018-9 including a much due update of the infotainment system. very highly doubt that TLX will see a facelift for another 2 years at least imo.

i don't like the MDX new grille at all as i posted on their forum. it looks like Kia. the beak, like it or not at least has become an Acura trademark, the new beak gonna confuse a lot of regular folks. if they want to get rid of the beak, go back to something similar as the Accord or Pilot.

I don't hate the new grill design but I think Acura has perfected the "shield" with the 2014 MDX (and TLX).
Good thing they brought back the exhaust tips hahaha
Who knows, they'll bring back the shield in 5 years. It's Honda/Acura thinking.

Gross. Yeah I like the beak better, and really dont mind my dads 09 TL grill that everyone hates. They should have kept the overall beak dimensions but could have made it smaller or something. How is this any better is still bulky and ugly.

I dunno I think this new change could work for the MDX. My thing is on the precision concept it looked more in line with the overall car thematically and this style of grill works better on a shark nose angle to the front end... hard to see it looking completely integrated with the current design of the MDX, but I thought the current MDX lost some of it's masculinity and was too soft edged trying to be more Lexus RX like... of course as the RX decided to go in the opposite direction and become more edgy and aggressive looking (not saying it looks good either lol)
I'd have to see it in person but overall not bad. and of course integrated exhaust is back lol... that design language didn't last long... hopefully that means a new rear bumper and tail pipes for the TLX with hopes we can convert our originals to that lol...
and as others have done here, blacking out the TLX grill makes a huge difference and I plan on doing the same.

* Sigh * I can't even muster the courage to give my comments on this new design....So long Acura, it was nice riding with ya.
I mean come on! The 2017 Hyundai Elantra looks more cohesive than this....
Now the question, should I close my Acurazine account?? I kept hoping I'd be back soon with Acura but that will not be the case.

Better than the beak and maybe it will fit better when adapted for the new TLX - S with 350 hp, exposed pipes, with 8 speed non jerking DCT coming out this summer.

But I must admit, I do like the new specs. The power bump, the transmission, the real wood interior, the active suspension, the electric motors and SH-AWD. I think it brings the MDX where it should be, and for that, I give Acura a thumbs up.

I can see the TLX-S having 325hp, and in my mind, with electric motors, that's all good. I doubt Acura will pull more from it. But whatever. It'd be gangster as hell with SH-AWD, instant torque at the bottom end, a DCT mated to the V6 and that much power.

^^ yeah....just dreaming. At least the beak is gone. Just hoping for new powertrain for TLX.

Not a fan of the new Acura Grille. I feel it looks okay for Acura'SUV. I would rather see the tone down beak version of the NSX making is way through Acura Sport Sedan. That's a good looking grille.

Treblig.....I am trying to keep an open mind until I see it in person so I don't want to be too harsh (yet). I am fairly confident that the MMC for the TLX will see some significant powertrain change...I can't see them leaving it as is when the Infiniti now has a 400HP option.
The notion of trickling down the RLX technology is being evident with the MDX and it will come to the TLX for sure too. A SH-SH-AWD TLX with a sexy interior, a sporty interior, good wheels and an upgrade to their part suppliers would go a long way to make the TLX a success.
Now if they fail, and you go the Audi route, I hope you will splurge and get the S4
Luckily for me, I have 2 more summers with my IS so that will give me a chance to assess Acura's implementation of the 2018 TLX when it gets released next summer....and get mine (if its worthy) by the spring/summer of 2018.
But I am telling ya, my passion for Acura is starting to dwindle.....

@ Weather: I am holding out hope that Acura makes a sea change in their upcoming products. That A4 is very impressive with its tech, which was the calling card for Acuras of old. It just seems like Acura has lost its mojo which has been the trend over the last several model years. So, I am waiting to see what the 2017 TLX brings to the party before making my decision to stay put or move on. If I decide to go with the A4, it will most likely be the SLine. S4 is a bit more than I would like to spend at the moment.

I do not like the beaks, and while the current TLX and 16 RDX beaks are the bets of the worst, I am not a fan of this either. The had a good design on the 3G TL that they could have used and made a little larger and gotten rid of the cross bar and would be fine. This just looks like a squatty Chrysler pentastar with an A Acura logo. The new design looks somewhat forced with the fascia and the grille looks restrained.

That's the most restrained version of the new buck tooth design. Looks fine on the GTR, although a bit forced. On the Maxima, and some other models I think it looks worse or as bad as on the 4G TL.
I have an MDX, and don't mind the shield on it at all. I like the new headlights, the bumper treatments seem a little busy, but I'm ehhh on the new grill. It makes the MDX look alot beefier, but I think it would have looked a little better if it was squished down a bit, and wasn't so tall. Overall though, I think a pentagram shape as a calling card is bit generic, and weak.
I am very surprised at how little was changed on the rear; was expecting more. The changes below the skin all seem like great improvments, and with those changes, and these mild updates, I'm sure the MDX will continue to sell like hotcakes.

So .... people bitched about the beak, and Acura toned it down two or three different times. And they still bitched. So Acura deleted the beak entirely ....... and people bitch.

^^ I know that its hard to please everyone....For one, I never complained about the beak 2.0 - Initially, yes, it was a bit much, especially on the 2009-2011 TL but on the 2012+ TL and TLX, it was fine. It was good on the ILX and the RDX/MDX also....

I liked the previous version better - this looks too Korean, and the giant Acura badge on the front reminds of the hideous, ostentatious MB logo on some of their vehicles. I wonder if one can order the logo with illumination, as on MB. "Hey everyone, look at ME - I paid over 45K for my new car."
