XM Pricing, How low will they go?

Hey I've got less than a month left on my trial and I was curious how low folks have gotten their renewal down to? From my recent VW days, I was able to get anywhere from $77- $95 a year. This was for Sirius, but I'm sure XM will be something similar. I've been getting the letters already from XM but I'm not going to take their first offer.

Thanks

XM just called me last month. I didnt want to continue service so i kept saying no. They went down to $1 per month for 3 months and then something like regular pricing 7-10 bucks a month. Can remember the exact numbers.

Be careful though with whatever offer you take because it will automatically renew at standard rates "for your convenience."

They are banking on you not cancelling at the end of the 3/6 months.

I create a Shopsafe credit card number with a two month expiration period - that way they can't renew it automatically.

SiriusXM has a very bad reputation for billing. Once they have your credit card number they will charge it "by accident" then give you a run-around for a refund.

Yep so far I have been lucky. They've always sent me a notice and I will call a couple weeks before it expires and "negotiate" a better price. I'm just trying to see what the latest deals are.

For the last several months they have been offering 6 months for $25 and no activation fee.

Good luck, Jim

I just got an offer of $86 for 12 months, no activation fee. We're not in the car enough to justify it.

I knew that SiriusXM was bad, but did you look at the reviews I linked too? Sheesh.

As far as I can tell, the $26 for 6 months is about as cheap as it gets. There is also the $86 (or therabouts) for a year.

I've not been able to get any deals for traffic or weather.

Good to know. I want to continue with XM and will wait for the hopeful offers once my free trial is done

I've just been doing the trial over and over again. lets hope they don't stop this. I've renewed it twice doing this. 3 months + 4 months free going here. I don't know how they figure this out, but I just switch zip codes back and forth and it lets me.

If you don't cancel they will automatically renew you and send you a paper invoice. They are really tricky about this.

I put a reminder on my calendar and call each year to cancel. Honestly I don't care if I renew or not. I don't get much value out of it. So if I can't get a good deal I'll just let it go. I was without service for months, they made me an offer I couldn't resist. Something like $30 for the year. This last renewal was somewhere around $90 after they tack on tax and fees.

Had a terrible experience this summer with this 3-month promotion. Wated to cancel as my lease was coming to an end in any case, but there was no way to cancel: everywhere on their website there are just easy buttons to renew or subscribe, but not a single way to cancel an existing subscription, not ONE! Created an account, but there is no way to cancel an existing subscription - never seen this in my life!! Called 3-4 times, waited about 45 minutes only to get someone saying that would have to transfer me to customer service and then the connection was lost. In the meantime, they changed my credit card the full amount and in a dramatic final, got someone to cancel my subscription and got a refund. Be careful...

Yes the only way to cancel is to call them. This way they can try to keep you by offering a lower price. I've never had that hard of a time getting someone on the phone. But I'm sure they get busy since they force people to call them.

I tell them to send me an invoice and I pay by check - the old fashioned way but it works since they cannot auto renew and have to contact me to try to get me to renew. I say no and the price starts dropping...

minnmarker this is the same MO that I have been using for a few yrs now & know it to be a viable method to help prevent * heartburn * down the road with SIRIUS/XM come renewal time.

I learned the hard way sometime back about giving them my CC #. They invoice me after we have an agreed upon price & I remit a personal check all using snail mail. I also write down the details of our telcon, to include the party's name, date, price etc. This helps come renewal time, another hard learned lesson & as always, YMMV applies here.

Thanks to all for the tips/info. I've got about 4 days left. So far I've been getting emails from them but no price breaks yet. When I had my VW they eventually sent me a letter with a much better deal.

Hi mdfree, let it expire. The cheap offers start to roll in quickly after that.
