I had two radios hooked up to XM, costing me about $200/yr, quite a savings over a 5yr period to drop it.
What in the world are you talking about? Do you care to come over and show me the 3.5mm jack in my 2006 RL?

Hint: Bring lunch. You won't find one, because there isn't one.

As your humble RL moderator, I just wanted all to know that the deal still works. I just got off the phone with XM to renew the service in my CTS-V wagon, for which the 3-month trial expired a couple of weeks ago. I called the number on page 1 and immediately not only got a native English speaker (RARE EVENT for XM), I got a person based just down the freeway from me. I was immediately offered the $86 a year deal, with $3.99 for traffic.

I got no games and had a pleasant conversation about how the weather around here sucked....since we were from the same area.

I have only rarely left a call with XM lately satisfied, but I was this time.

Just received my bill today (two radios plus traffic on the RL). I called and told them it was too much and wanted to cancel. Was transferred to cancellations where they "magically" found the $86/year promotion. I did have to pay fees so two radios with the traffic ended up costing $104.54 less than my original billed amount for the next year.

It's real simple, the sound quality is HORRIBLE!!!! FM is way better than most stations, and even cell phone internet radio is sometimes better. Completely unacceptable for a paid service. I cant even bear to listen to most stations it's so horrible. I keep it for the news and comedy and other talk stations and it's not worth more than the $30 I paid for 6 months. When it's it's up they'll give it to me for that or a little more or I'll walk. The music stations have ZERO value for me. Only a few have a decent bitrate and sound good. The rest are flat and lossy and have NO impact. Sounds so bad they have me longing for the days of cassette tapes. This is what no competition gets you people...

radio is competition (HD radio, sound familiar?), and it's free.

Just got a notice offering $35/6mo to reactivate my Sirius (desktop) radio. The AD had Howard Stern all over it. I called but gave them my Acura XM radio identifier instead. They gave me the same deal but when I check it out, Howard was missing. When I called to inquire they said Howard was a premium product not covered by the promotion. I told them about the AD and they relented and added Howard.

It can still be done.

Prevent bad luck. Refuse to pay it.

If that doesn't work, ask to get a supervisor on the line and tell them you want to subscribe, but not for over $100.

If that doesn't work, may I suggest installing a USA Spec unit in your Acura and streaming Pandora through your phone. I did, and that's even though I was getting the lower price in the first place. I like the idea of only paying once.

I'll try it again in a week. I have a bluetooth receiver plugged into my aux with a app on my phone that starts Spotify up when I turn the car on. Works great, only cost $35

Question: I know everyone here uses the XM side of the SiriusXM Corporation, but has anyone had experience with the Sirius side honoring the same price structure? (Driving a Taurus SHO now and the contract is about to expire.)

I have a BMW that came with 1 yr free Sirius. I was able to get the same $89 re-up as I did with my RL. I would assume you will also have no problem.

Side note... I cant believe this still works after all these years..

What's the latest on this? Deals still available? Wife is bugging me to put it in her car after having a rental with it. Years ago, I think I paid $77/year plus fees.

For our radio-only (no traffic) car, I just used a code I googled and got 6 months for $28 with tax etc... After that, it renews at 106, unless I cancel. Which I will.

Bumping an old thread. I called the number on the first post, which I’ve been doing for the last 2 years. I’ve typically gotten the 89$ renewal deal everyone gets. Today I called and gave them the code in the first post. They gave me a rate of 72$ for the whole year!!! I only get the music channels. They were willing to give me nav traffic for an additional 23$ and some change. I don’t know what the promotion is but I’d give them a call!!!

Tossing in the towel

I finally cancelled the XM, despite ongoing renewals at $25 for 5 months of service.

Maybe it was satellite position, or my radio, but quite often during my fairly short commute, the signal would drop out. On top of that, the ever-increasing commercial interruptions became ever-more frustrating, as did the ever-increasing royalty fees, and the fact that XM always sent a new invoice only after the subscription period expired. This time, I asked them to let my subscription expire.

These days, if I'm going on a long drive I can download a podcast and use my bluetooth-to-FM player to listen to it. I guess these have ads -- but they're free!

Signing off (of XM).
