'07-'08 TL base auto transmission cooler install

07-08 transmission is different from DIY A-116.

I asked a few questions and fenda rolla has answered all of them and it was smooth.

* mount the cooler outlet(or inlet) facing up or side. if it is mounted upside down, air will be trapped up there and fluid won't be able to take advantage of whole cooler.

Fluid comes out of banjo 6 and back into 7. so B&M should be installed between radiator (not B&M, the rad rad) & 7.

note : this diagram is "backward" of the tranny so keep in mind.
(i THINK the bottom left corner piping is for type S auto that goes into OE installed air-cooled tranny cooler)

fluid enters piping where it says number 20, then follow it down until it enters radiator bottom right corner.
then it comes out of middle-ish part of radiator then U turn, and back into the transmission

the loop, (view from laying under the car, feet sticking out toward the front of the car)
note two black pipes, the lower one receives fluid, which then goes into the radiator for heat-up, cool down(if it's even cooling)

and then it comes out of the silver banjo on the left side of "the loop" photo, U-turn, and back it goes into the transmission

where banjo 6&7 meet the pipe (looking under the car squatting in front of the car)

view from above the radiator

now for the install, I did not take the bumper off, and it was okay. except i ran into these reinforcement bars(?)

i popped these PS cooler clisp, then shoved the B&M in, and put the clips back on.

here's the overlap

and on PS cooler, there are two of these little plastic clips

they can be popped easily
(clip shown from under)

i just press the black clip with the back of screwdriver

my ghetto anti-kink method was cable ties that were lying around.
the left one is tied to the bar (drawn blue) mentioned above.
and then.....

the one in the front leads into B&M
one in the back should go from B&M into transmission

from radiator pipe into B&M(not shown)

from B&M(not shown) into tranny (banjo 7)
view from driver wheel well

that's about it, hope it helps those handful out there who wants tranny cooler in 07-08

Excellent write-up!! Glad everything went pretty smoothly and turned out good!

Oh and one last thing to add to the write-up (unless I missed it, if so disregard), B&M says to have the inlet of the cooler on the bottom and the outlet on top when mounted sideways. Again, great write-up!

I recommend everybody do this, as soon as my warranty expires I will be removing my stock cooler (Type S) and going with a B&M, the stock cooler is too small.

i'm not quite sure how Type S is piped
tranny-radiator-cooler-tranny,

if you're just going to replace stock air-oil cooler with B&M it should be easy right?

also, i have found WITH the cooler installed on 07-08 like mine (bottom in, top out of cooler), it will drain close to 4 qts (not "little over 3qt")

I am not sure. I was focused on routing the line so that cooler's out line faces up, or at least above in line. Ended up with it sideways.
But my dear Honda mechanic buddy said I can bend the crap out of power steering cooler (not literally) and bent it out of the way a little and all is well. (a little forward so it still overlaps but clears 3/4" cooler and 1/8" mounting foam)

I noticed I double-banded some hoses but I made sure not to put it over the bulge on the metal fittings. Those connections are holding strong after 2 years of use and occasional abuse.

4drviper, have you seen a 10-12deg bump in your coolant temps?

since the trans cooler sits on the radiator and hogs up incoming air and by just physical contact, I have seen my coolant stays around 202-204 degs and it used to be about 190-192 degs

My coolant temp used to be 175-185 when running, 190-200 in traffic jam, I think mine went up by 2-3 degrees, if any at all. Or the radiator got dirty over 20k miles of driving. This is just my thinking the cooler won't do any big harm. The airflow to where I mounted the cooler, is blocked by the front bumper anyways. Even though the grill insert next to fog lights do bring in some air, the cooler is not visible from the front of the car. Made me want to cut up in the middle and make droop-style grill for max cooling(kinda like new Genesis sedan)

Going up the mountain with heavy load & interstate speed, my coolant temp was 220-240, but nothing blew up. Just the stock coolant temp gauge went up by 1 notch.

Do you see over 200F while moving or sitting in traffic?

I used to be the same....around 180-190 highway and 195-205 in the city...

now I see around 198-202 highway and 204-212 in the city....

the 2 reasons I THINK is because of:
1> HOTTT cooler sitting on the radiator...maybe there is some transfer of heat going on between the radiator AND cooler
2> cooler robbing the radiator of some cool air....

and I totally agree with you....I have been planning on doing this:

the little opening in the middle of the bumper to get in some fresh air
