Painted OEM rims *pics

This past weekend, I decided to try using DupliColor's wheel coating on the stock rims. Thought you guys would be interested to see how it turned out.

Really didn't take that long, and wasn't hard at all. Washed them real well, then wet sanded with one of those 320 grit sponges. Washed again. After drying, hit each with two coats of primer. Then 2 light coats of duplicolor graphite wheel coating, with a medium-heavy 3rd coat. Cars so dirty, the pollen is brutal around here.

That's actually why I chose to do just a graphite coating for now. I have never necessarily hated the stock rims, but I've always hated the stock height. So I figured that the money I'm saving right now will go towards a drop, and not rims... yet

Pretty good. I'd lower the car a little bit, put on the aspec kit, and remove that body molding.

I would switch out the rear side markers to smoke side markers for a more uniform look. the red just stands out like a sore thumb

Agreed. I cannot stand those side markers. Plan to pick up some TL-S markers as soon as I can. Dropping it is first on the list of summer mods, TL-S side markers and clear/smoked tails is next.

If your worried about the black A badge in the center, just pick it out (or paint over them).....it's just a decal. Then after you paint the caps, order a new set of black A's to go back in the recesses. The part number is 44734-S6M-A02 and they cost $5 each. $20 bucks well spent.

IMO the molding looks nice. And another member here just recently tried to remove his body molding and chipped off a lot of the paint on his door - I wouldn't risk it.

It's not an "A". It's a caliper!

Car looks good OP. I'd lose the molding, drop it an inch and a half and add some spacers!

Can't wait to drop it. 25mm spacers are on the to-do list as well

I actually kind of like them too. I planned on matching them, but I popped them in, just to see how it'd look, after I did the rims, and I liked the contrast

I'm sorry, you've completely lost me. The part I mentioned is a black A sticker. And no they make no sense with the center caps still Silver.

You're talking about the same thing. He's saying the logo is a stylized caliber, not an A, which supposedly represents Acura's pursuit of engineering excellence.

And you're dead set about these center caps luckily, it's mine and not yours haha, i'll post pics if i ever match them

Oh now I get it. I was thinking "brake caliper". DOH! Some people say "A", some say stylized "H", and other say it's a "Caliper". I'm sure it's a little bit of each.

I actually didn't clear coat. I planned on doing it, but happened to drop the can and it ruptured But I had read in a few other forums, STi etc, that it technically doesn't need a clear coat. But I'm sure I'll find that I need to redo them. I went into the whole process planning on having to redo them in a few weeks/months, so I decided to just see how it went without clear coat. If they get roughed up, I'll redo them and definitely hit with some clear.

Do you have any pics of this? I'm wondering how this would look on WDP.

Great Job man I love those rims! I had a 04 3.5 RL years back and acquired a set when I worked at Acura from a car that went ASPEC. Turned the car to a gem... But also whole heartedly agree, you need to bring her down!!! Mind that wheel well gap!

OK The clear coat keeps them from chipping easily.
Just a suggestion

I want to get some Tein Street Basis coilovers real bad. I was actually going to buy some Tanabe DF210s yesterday to hold me over until I can afford the coilovers (few weeks/months) but I got another speeding ticket yesterday, so that'll put it all on hold a little while.

clearing the heads has been on the top of my DIY list for awhile now. just need man up and do it. i think it's the idea of baking them, and resealing them well, that just terrifies me. I really want to do some accord fogs with yellow overlay too, but the install for fogs looks like a complete PITA. summer should give me extra time, and possibly balls as well lol
