Spark Plugs

Hey guys,
I am considering changing the spark plugs, wires and fuel filter to try to increase fuel economy and performance. Has anyone seen enough of a difference in this upgrade for it to be worth doing?

How old and how many miles on your car?

Lol. Keep or Replace the Plugs with OEM Plugs depending on mileage. No wires and no to the fuel filter.

The car has 75,000 miles. Every once a while you read if you UPGRADE the spark plugs and wires you'll increase gas mileage.

Have you ever popped your hood before? lol Let me know how it goes with those wire ;-)

Either way if you feel like tackling the job yourself changing out the spark plugs is pretty simple on the TL. I would recommend using OEM replacement plugs. No need to go with anything else.

Not sure if 75k is really that many miles. Kind of in between I think. Some would say change, some would say wait until the 105k maint interval.

Also, we have no plug wires. Coil packs. If they're working, no need to replace. If they are not working you'll get a CEL and misfire code.

Regardless don't do an "alternate" or "after market" plug. Acura spec'd good plugs so stick with 'em. No amount of marketing hype (MOAR Sparks, MOOARR Fire, MOOOAAARRRR POWER!!!!) should sway you from this.

If you need more HP, get one of them AcuraZine stickers. Guaranteed to add at least 15 WHP. Maybe 20. If not, member justnspace will share his crabs with you. Win/Win.

.... in addition to AcuraZine stickers for donations of $20 or more, ....

I would also recommending sticking with OEM plugs. I did mine at about 75K as well. Mainly because I had just bought the car and did all the filters, basic fluids and figured I'd do the plugs as well. Also I didn't want to do them in the dead of winter.

I saw no difference in MPG when I did mine. I would not expect you to see any difference either.

With regards to the Acurazine sticker. Do not make the mistake I made. I attached mine to the strut tower bar so I only see a slight improvement in the handling of the car. Should have placed in on the window like the sticker manual suggested.

OEM plugs are NGK Laser Iridium....good for 105K miles but i switch mine out at 70K intervals....

Before you switch the plugs out, throw some seafoam in your crank case (1 can of seafoam)....also put 1/2 can of seafoam in fuel tank (when the fuel light comes on) and 1/2 can in the vac port using the slurp slurp method....

This will clean all the gunk out.....then do an oil change and change ur spark plugs....

this will yield you slightly more mpg's....if you want more mpg's out of your car then try to be easy on the gas LOL...

Looks like the going rate. Google "NGK IZFR6K-11".

Cheapest I see is $9 at http://summerland-auto-sports.amazon...B000GZAUQ8.htm, which is hardly worth the on-line hassle & wait.

I bought my spark plugs from the Acura dealership at around 78k miles.

Just a tip if you're doing it yourself: remove the tower strut bar.
Then you'll have better access to the rears.

Usually you won't be able to see any problems when viewing the plugs, and checking the gap may give an indication if the gap is extremely wide. These plugs will last an extremely long time, well over 100,000 miles, but normally on a used car, especially with that mileage and not having any maintenance records available, just replace the plugs if in doubt.

I would but I'm in Alaska for the holidays. Tan usually means your mixture is right, and I could still see the electrode well enough.

I probably will, when I pulled them I just didnt have the extra $80 to get them. Iridium sure is spendy but its worth it.
