I've learned that the TL is one of those wonders of the world... You can get some pretty bad gas mileage in stop and go driving, but will compete with some compact cars on the highway. My stats are opposite of yours 70% highway / 30% city, and I average bewteen 25 and 26 mpg.

I'm 98% city and 2% highway. I rarely get on the highway and I get between 17 and 20 around town. I'm pretty light on the gas too, I'm usually not in a rush to get anywhere.

You will get a firestorm of different answers. It really depends on your average miles per hour as indicated in your MID. Also, I think we have some of the worst gas in the nation in Cali. My driving is about the same mix as yours. For the year, I'm averaging 17.6 MPG in the TL. My worst tank was @ 14.7 MPG, the best has been 20.0. When driving mostly highway I get closer to 30 MPG. The mileage average is very sensitive to stop and go driving. For the same period my MDX averages 15.2 MPG and my Del Sol is averaging 24.5 MPG.

I enter all of my data into Gas Cubby on my Iphone to keep track. Tonight I paid $2.96/Gal for Regular Unleaded (DelSol) and this is what I'm mostly driving right now.

please dont use 87 regular gas in the TL
yes the computer will compensate but its bad for it
91 or higher- meaning 93 or 94 if thats what they sell in your area

the first 15 miles/minutes are when the car is just getting warmed up- recharge the battery from starting the car, and trying to dry out overnight moisture from the oils
Worst mileage of the day right there

The book says if thats your normal drive.. to take it on the freeway for an hour cruise once a month to get it all dried out- really important to the life and running of the car

with the recent temp increases in most areas:
check your tire pressure- when it gets hot the pressure goes down- molecule yadayada they can be run higher than what the door sticker says in most cases
36 psi average for most tires that book says 32, less rolling resistance and wont hurt tire

How many miles on the car? 50k? its ready for a seafoam treatment- it really does clean out crud buildup -the ethanol 10 gas is messing up cars across the country
thats why makers are adding cleaners to every octane now- not just the 91
They HAVE to!

yes its true- Ca has its own special rules and gas formula to reduce emissions,,
and of course it results in lower mileage

Our commutes are similar and my average is a little over 24 MPG with my '04 manual. I once had a high of 27.98 for a work week commute in the summer (remember, you get higher mileage in the warmer months). I was really trying to milk it then plus I had the stock EL42's on the car.

He's not putting it in the TL. Read the post again.

And how much stock do you have in Seafoam? I don't think I've seen you post without mentioning it.

My commute sounds similar to yours. Three miles on a super highway, then the rest of my way in through a small city and residential areas (suburbia). Traffic is light when I go in (45 minutes between 4:45 and 5:30am), and moderately heavy on the way home usually between 3:00 and 4:00pm.

With my current tires (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus), my mileage for this commute is a little over 24 MPG. When I had the stock EL42's on the car, I managed 27.98 MPG for this commute during one week in the summer (remember you get better mileage in the warmer months than the colder months).

OOPS. I just noticed that my last attempt at posting, which appeared to have failed, actually worked.

I do about 50/50 City/Hwy and get about 22-23 mpg per the MID.

I drive a MT and usually shift between 2.5k~3k rpm on my daily commute.

i do 80% highway and 20% back roads. i usually get 30mpg and sometime 28mpgs. When i change my oil and get some air in the tires clean my air filter, and seafoam. i got 32mpgs but it does not last long. I would drive around for a week or two and it will go back down to 28MPG or sometime 26MPGs

clean the TB plate too- it gets dirty from the PCV system and effects the air coming in to feed the engine

I wish I had stock in foam! it and a few others like bg44 and wynns do an amazing job removing carbin buildup and combustion crud
With our zero tolerance hi compression engines its particularly important to keep everything clean
My Honda bike manual requires a `decarbonizing` now and then- warning that contact between the carbon layer on the piston to valves is possible if left to build up! Yikes!!

Anyone who has done or read the egr port cleaning thread knows how bad these engines get inside quickly

Many hi end cars require induction cleaning (many machines use guess what?!) every year -15k miles.
Acura dealers have signs in the service dept for it at $100-$149

No, its not in the book of `scheduled maitenance`- a lot of things are not in the book but are helpful and smart in the long run- like induction cleaning and new plugs at 60, not 100k miles
The car will run better

sorry I missed the 87 octane driver is in a delsol- not wearing my glasses~
but the info is valid for the TL- which is what I think about on this forum

I bought my 2005 TL used and have only had it since April or May (time flies - I forget now). Anyway, I have always put only gasoline WITHOUT any ethanal. I drive 32 miles one way to work. 2 miles city, 28 miles interstate, then 2 more mile city. However, sometimes the interstate miles there will be some stop and go. Anyway, my average according to the display over several fill-ups is 27 to 28 mpg. If I go to see my daughter in Cincinnati - I have gotten as high as 31, but usually at least 30. Depends on how much I stay at 80 MPH, or slow down a little around 65 to 70.

I have friends who have compared running gas with no ethanol vs. gas with ethanol and they say that their mileage is about 10% worse with the ethanol gas.

Sorry 01tl4tl, you are incorrect in your post above that tire pressure decreases in warmer weather. Air pressure in your tire does the exact opposite. Tire pressure increases as temp rise and decrease as temp goes falls. General rule is for every 10 degrees of change in tempetature you gain or lose about 1 psi of tire pressure.
