There are 2 bolts under the radio. Search the forums, they're well documented.

The bolts are low and deep. You will need to take out the "Not an Ashtray" to get at them. Be careful not to drop them as you are taking them out.

Isn't that why you have a Navi, so you can have something else to look at on the screen?

The new availability date is "End of March" per my call to USA Spec.
Since this is such a hot topic on the boards, maybe we can get a group buy going.

PA-115 Hon2...can you still use your CD player?

I realize the immediate answer will be "why would you want to?" but if you install this interface do you lose your CD player entirely? I would still want to be able to play the occasional CD every now and again.

Anyone install this on a 2005 with XM and factry nav, and a 6 disc in dash changer?

TIA,

TXTENOR

With the current product, you can use your CD and XM with no problem. Older products that allegedly display iPod text had to lose the XM capability, but you always had the CD capability. The new product is *supposed* to allow XM and iPod text capability

Think the HON3 will work on an '05 Canadian RL that does not have XM? Would it still have text without XM?

I believe that is a manufacturer question, and I would personally encourage you to call them and let us all benefit from your research!

Just got off the phone with USA Spec - They are having manufacturer difficulties and expect at least a 1 Month delay from today, more realistically longer.

Also If you have a CANADIAN model car that does NOT have the XM button (which I have, I don't think any CDN ones do) AND have a NAV screen, the HON3 will do NOTHING different for you than the HON2. I confirmed this with a tech at USA Spec.

Basically, you want NAV Traffic and have XM with a NAV screen, then you want the HON3. All others, no point...

This goes for all Acura's according to the Tech. The HON3 is really made for the US market.

Deep

PS. CDN Spec cars MUST be set to CD-C mode in order to use this. Dip switch 1 is off (if you don't use the RCA inputs for anything, on if you do) 2,3,4 must be on for CD-C mode.

Just to clarify, and maybe you can,

I understood that with the HON2, you can have XM, Nav and iPod, and aux device.

It is just that with the iPOD and aux device, the HON2 just says EXTENSION on the Nav Screen and CD2 on the electroluminescent display in the upper dash, with some limited steering wheel control, volume, next track, previous track.

Now the HON3 is supposed to do away with the EXTENSION in the Nav screen, and actually display iPod text, like song, artist, folder, etc., which is a good thing, with some limited steering wheel control.

Sorry - I don't know the answer to your question. You can call USA Spec, took me literally 3 minutes to call, get them to transfer me to a tech and get the question answered. Very quick indeed...

Thanks. I called them up and they confirmed my understanding. When it is out HON3 will create an XM2 port, which they will use to display iPod text. It was not clear whether there was a single physical port, and they created virtual ports, XM1 for the XM receiver, and XM2 for the iPod, or if there was hardware that created a second port somehow.

Regardless, the HON3 will allow iPod to display text such as artist and song on the Nav screen.

Thumbs up

I"d definitely be in if there were a DIY photo guide.

It looks / sounds simple enough (I put XM in my CL using one of those HONxx boxes).

The dude in that video looks like he was going for some kind of installation time record. Think he got a little confused at the end too.

I'm sure someone here will post pics when they get their HON3 in right?

I suppose I am asking for too much, but I would also like the ability to play videos from my Iphone to the nav screen.

Now I do have navtool installed and use Video 2 for the backup camera. Works flawless as it was designed to.
I can also hook up the Iphone to Video 1 and play my videos on the nav screen through the navtool. No audio though. Navtool is audio, not video.

So at this point, will this PA15-HON3 have an extra RCA audio input? Doubt it, but am brainstorming on how to do this. May have to get a splitter of some sort.
The aftermarket is so much kinder to Lexus than Acura in this regard. ;(

Actually, if the HON3 is a functional replacement for the HON2, with upgraded capability, there is a second aux input 2 RCAs for sound. The Nav2Go unit used in conjunction with the HON2 is how they get the sound for the DVDs to play. I think there is a thread or two on this forum, and definitely on the TL forum

So you are not wishing for too much. You can do what you want to do with the HON2, so the HON3 should be similar.

The operative word is SHOULD. Have to wait until the HON3 comes out.

I cannot find the thread, but here is one that shows the finished product.

Found it. Here is another installation that uses the DOM converter which I think they talk about on the 3G TL site.

Finally got this installed - anyone has this HON2 installed? I'm getting a noise issue (very faint, but it's there when it's charging the iPod)

I have the NeoAudio version installed, which I honestly believe to be a rebranded USASpec. No noise issues in an 06 RL.

Called USA Spec - they said it's normal on some cars, they are sending me another cable that is apparently better filtering, but he says that it most likely will not fix it...

Oh well...

Hon 3 update

Here is the latest on the HON3--I spoke with the tech today and he informed me that the release of the product has been rescheduled. The unit will now be available in seven weeks. He also informed me that in order to display iPod information, the unit will have to utilize XM1 leaving XM2 available for XM Radio.

Thanks for the update. To be honest it was and still is wishful thinking. Bet another update later on will provide any number of the standard excuses released in a form letter format.

I'm in the believe it when I see it camp. Oh well.

I just had mine done at a shop of convenience, close to work. Dropped it off, walked back to the office, and then picked it up at the end of the day.

They did a decent job. If I had it to do over again, I would have asked for more slack in the cables so I could go into the upper arm rest compartment. Right now, even if I had more slack, the iPod connector is too wide to fit through the cut out to the upper arm rest. So bottom line is, they did a great job, and did exactly what I had asked them to. Frankly I had forgotten about the cut out access to the upper arm rest when this was being done.

They assembled the parts back together again solidly, no squeaks or rattles. I know they had to remove some pieces to drill out holes for the grommets that hold the two inputs, iPod connector and 3.5mm stereo headphone jack.

Mine was the first RL they had done, and given our car's rarity, may be still be the only one.

http://www.soundsolutionscaraudio.com/index.html

PS Glad to see you still have the car!

new guy here also needs connectivity

I just took possession of a sweet 05 RL with some nicer options. My other car is an 02 986 Porsche and I was able to install the ipod aux very easily on that car. This one looks a bit more complex to say the least.
It's now the end of April and curious if anyone has had success geting the proper cable to connect and show track info?
please keep this post updated.
Thanks,
Glenn

I heard from USA Spec about the new harness PA15-HON3. Looks like its probably 8-10 weeks out at the earliest. This after being pushed 3-4 weeks at the end of March. Not looking good for this harness.

Check with Dice and Blitz for their units. Call them up to discuss.

I think the other question is do you mind losing XM? I think that is the situation right now. If you disconnect XM, there are solutions. If you want both, that is apparently what USA Spec is wrestling with.

Let us know what you find out from Dice and Blitz

I just got an 06 RL and was debating between waiting for the HON3 or going now with the HON2. So I decided to call USA-Spec to inquire about the status of the HON3 and was told that it is still about 4-6 weeks out.

Do not waste your money on it. Buy PC Card Adapter and flash card. Plug-in into your navigation and you can listen upto 1000 songs in MP3 format...

This is the first I have heard/read about this capability. Can you provide some additional information about it? Exactly what type of PC Card Adapter and will the radio display song information, title, etc. like MP3? Why only a 1000 songs if you have a card that can hold more?

Thanks for the insight and suggestion.
