einszett Klima Cleaner for A/C

My 2011 TSX is having some musty smell when I turn on the AC. I tried turning up the heat to the highest setting temperature and fan speed for 15 minutes or so. But it didn't solve the problem. I am thinking about using the einszett Klima Cleaner to clean the evaporator. I looked at the 2 center vents with a flashlight. But I am not sure whether the tube of the Klima cleaner can reach the evaporator. If you have used the Klima cleaner with your TSX, please share your experience?

Thanks in advance.

When I had a "musty" smell in my '95 Civic the smell came and gone and used air cleaners and such but the source of the problem was the evaporator was leaking freon. So, you might want to check if you have leakage at your AC shop.

Thanks. I read and tried some suggestions in that thread already. The baking soda cabin filter did not help. I changed to an OEM cabin filter a few months ago. Maybe I will try Lysol first.

Lysol is not a good idea. try Klimacleaner first - that's what it is made for.

i dunno about the actual product but if your using a spray, you'd likely want an alcohol based solution with an antibacterial in it, i assumewhat klimacleaner is. the problem with just spraying lysol and all that shit is if its water based, it can make the problem worse when the chemicals are gone and it stays moist from the water based solution. alcohol has a lower point of vaporization, aka why hand sanitizer is alcohol, it'll evap within seconds at room temp

pull out the cabin filter. start the car put fan on. BE CARFEFUL you can see fan spinning looking down. spray some in the fan. then put recirc and spray some more. defrost use all the settings. that will take care of the ducts in the car.

BUT most times the issue is in the evaporator......its the thing looking up where the cabin filter goes. turn car off and try and spray UP into the evap. let that all sit for a bit. replace filter and run without RECIRC for a while and hope you got some INTO that evaporator/

GL

I used a Wurth product. it definitely cleared the INSIDE. hitting recirc shuts off any smell. recirc OFF smell comes back.

I have another appt on Mar 15. I expect they will be changing the evaporator itself since cleaning it came back. they dont like my surveys when all they did was spray air freshner in it.
its my third visit for the same thing. I shud have read the CFO lemon law sooner its only for one year and you need 4 visits without resolution SHAME ON ME

Good Luck

PS: I told the guy that the evaporator factory was in the Tsunami zone......or maybe the honda factory was......but either way I don't want it back until its 100% resolved. He took my number and said service manager will be calling before appt to discuss what they will do.

PSS: the reason i go to stealer is to buy a oil filter and washer and a cabin filter. so I ask parts guy 'how much cabin filter' 32.xx I say whoa internet like 20 bucks. No Thanks. He says UH I can 20.82. OK. give me oil filter. I play the same game saying they are like 6.50 Internet vs. the 7.80 he wants to charge me. so he makes it 6 bux and throws in the washer. I pay the cashier and parts guy is still there. I say to him in confidence 'the fact that I have to ask for a fair price......there is something wrong with that'. SO he says if you buy stuff from the internet I would ask you give me a call to meet or beat the price. I shook on it with him. Gave me his card. That was positive.....now lets see how my stinky issue gets resolved.

ROBPP gave an excellent summary. What more do you want?

If you are still under warranty then your dealer may clean it for you, but there is no telling what products (if any) they use.

The Wurth and 1z products are made to clean the mildew out of the system without damaging any of the rubber or plastic bits.

You know what, he asked a very valid question. I did this on my Acura TL and fried the living motherfucker out of my ECU.

You are saying that you properly followed the directions using the Wurth or 1z products and fried your ECU?

the TL's ECU is underneath the A/C center stack.
if some one were to spray a liquid into the A/C vents.....
you could see how some could drip on to electrical components and fry things

i would NEVER spray anything into the vents.
if your car has a musty smell, its the cabin air filter.

hopefully the one that squirts directly in there works a little more thoroughly, not so great comments on amazon...I mean I know the foam/liquid ran thru there cuz it drained thru and underneath the car.
