Does the 4cyl bother you.

I currently have a 2001 TL. I love the power of the V6. My brother has a 2006 TSX I love that car but wish it had more power, and the vibration from the 4cyl gets annoying.

I love the TSX, but for some reason the 4cyl bothers me. I dont know why. I test drove the 2 gen also. Its fairly decent. I love the car inside and out.

I would love to get opinions from previous v6 owner going to the 2gen TSX.

I didn't have a TL, but I went from a v6 to the TSX and I the only time I miss the power of the 6 is occasionally when passing on the highway.

I would say more of fuel economy is one of the top reasons.

I had a 2001 TL-P and went to a 2008 TSX. I did a comparison of the two. I do miss the power, but the handling is 100 times better than the TL. As for gas mileage, I get an average of about 4mpg better in the TSX.

It is all about preference. I didn't trust the transmission in my TL and missed the handling of my RSX and the TSX is a great compromise with excellent reliability and re-sale.

I came from a buttery smooth V6 in a chrysler sebring lxi.
Loved that engine, really did.

I was not happy with the engine on the TSX at first, not at all.
It was too loud for me, and too, well, 4-cylinderish.

I used to own 4cyl engines.
1984 toyota corolla.
1985 dodge something.
1989 mazda b-2200
1995 pontiac sunfire

I'll tell you what, they all sucked.

However...

I now consider my TSX's engine a benefit, no doubt.
the 2.4 i-vtec is actually quite nice.
I have no lack of power problems from my last 4cyl engines.
I look down on other cars because of their gas guzzling v6.

I'm very used to the engine now, and I can say I really like it.

but then again, I own an '08, and the engine and driving experience
are completely different than the bigger, heavier '09.
I don't like the '09 at all personally.

but the engine, by itself, is a top notch 4cyl, no question.

My previous car was a Mazda 6 3.0LV6. I can feel the difference in power and engine sound(4 cyl engines are loud). The handling was also better with the Mazda. Now if only Mazda can make their cars more reliable...

Plus with the high-revving i-vtech, it is fun to drive. One won't wear it out like the turbo engines.

From what I understand, the 09 TSX has balance shafts that the prev 2.4L did not. I find my 09 TSX idles very smoooth

With my 04, sometimes I find myself wanting more power. Happens mostly in merging or passing situations. In regular everyday driving, the 4 banger is usually enough. A little more power would be fun, though. But you can't beat the fuel economy. It all comes down to compromise.

I came from an 06 Lexus IS 350, and I don't miss it at all. I don't miss having to fill my gas tank once a week for $65 a pop, I don't miss not having a back seat, and I don't miss the monthly payment!

I know you were asking about the power issue, and there were times when I did miss it at the beginning, but I have gotten used to the 4 banger, and do enjoy driving this car. I plan on purchasing a Cold Air Intake (when available) and Cat Back Exhaust (when available) to squeeze out a few more ponies.

I went from a smooth Honda Accord V-6 to my '09 TSX. I knew going in that the 2.4L 4-cyl was more "high strung" so it didn't bother me. The V-6 is silky smooth but as a whole package, the TSX is by far more fun to drive then my Accord.

Thanks guys I might I have to rethink my choice.

What is everyone paying for a base TSX right now. I will be upgrading the sound system myself and never cared for navi.

After some a$$ time in TL-S's & CL-S's with no mods and with plenty of them, my butt dyno tells me that using light to moderate throttle around town, there's very little difference feel between the TSX and the TL or TL-S.

Obviously at WOT any of the others will stomp me, but I have three kids and mostly drive around town with them getting 29.2 mpg doing it. That's a helluva lot more than I can say about any of the TL's or CL's that *I* drove.

Also, I noticed on the highway traveling 70-80mph, if I need to pass, I don't bother downshifting because it's revving in that b-e-autiful 3-4k rpm torque-a-plenty range. I just roll into the throttle in 6th gear and it pulls very strong for a 4cyl.

HeavyDuty, you mean 5th gear........unfortunately our 2nd gen TSX's don't have a 6th gear.

I have a 2004 TL 6spd A Spec, and I do miss the car. It had a nice 3.2 v6 with a smooth trq curve and it would get 30mpg on highway if I wanted to. But I live in NYC and all my driving is mostly city driving.

One thing is for sure, the handling is better on the TSX stock for stock, I am not talking about the TL S, which is much stiffer. But the TSX is louder when you get on the throttle. But I feel like it's a refined car, and people got spoiled over the last decade, we do not NEED 300HP+ family mid size sedans. It seems like the trend is always more is better. The TSX is deff a comftorable car, and it has plenty of power to get you from point A to point B, there are deff much worse 4cyl options.......anyone test drive the Camary?

My roomate actually has a 07 camry 4cyl and GF has a 2004 camry. I think the camry has enough power. Maybe I will be joining the 2gen TSX crew.

I came from a V6 '96 Ford Probe. The TSX 4 actually has more HP and torque than that engine had. I detect no difference in smoothness, and the TSX is obviously more powerful, yet gets vastly better gas mileage (the Probe got 19 city/26 highway by my calculations). The only thing I miss is that distinct V6 exhaust burble that no 4 cyl is every going to have. I didn't care for the auto, but if you get the TSX with a stick, it'll pull a 6.7 0-60 according to Car & Driver. That'll beat many if not most 6 cyls out there.

Huh? I have an 09 TSX 6 spd manual trans...aren't the 09's second gen?

i think everyone craves more power. does anyone who posts here every really want less?

but that said, the 4-banger on the TSX is a pretty nice engine.

I am someone who came from several v6 models. I started with an MX6 V6, moved onto a 4cyl 5pd 99 accord coupe, then a 98 accord v6 coupe, then 2003 Nissan Maxima 3.5SE 6 speed. We also had a 2003 TL-S Aspec (only in Canada). I do not feel that the tsx is underpowered, the 4cyl is plenty for me, the gas consumption is something I was concerned about. Of course a more powerful car is nice, but pretty useless for me. I hated putting in $80/gas a week, the tsx has cut it in half pretty much. I have the 6 speed and I'm very happy with the car. I do plan on doing some mods in the future such as CAI, Hondata and possible headers, but as of right now, stock, the car is very impressive for a 4cyl. As others said, it destroys most other 4cyl sedans.

My 1st gen TSX (6-speed) was in the shop for a week, and I had a Mazda 6 automatic to drive in the meantime.

I was glad to get back in my TSX...

The I-4 in the TSX is about as smooth as they get, and I think the 2nd gen version has an extra balance shaft which should make it even sweeter. The 2nd gen is also tuned for even better low-end torque than the motor it replaced.

I think the TSX has plenty of pick driving around town..
the thing i love about honda 4-cylinders is that you could race/redline/VTEC all day and you'll stay under the speed limit.
the G35/TL actually moves..

Guys take it from someone who has owned numerous powerful cars, been an amatuer race car driver and driven damn near everything on the road from a performance car perspective...

You will ALWAYS want more power. I finally had to make the decision to walk away from the horsepower game and focus on other areas of motoring pleasure. Me and a couple friends were chasing hundredths of a second in the quarter mile on streetable cars that ran deep into the 10s in the quarter mile. Fun as hell, but uber expensive and after 5 or 6 years of faster, more power, quicker, need another tenth, I finally decided to put the power game down at least for awhile...

You can never have too much power and no matter what you drive you'll always want more. The TSX has 200 hp, if it had 220 everyone would be saying the samet hing. If it had a turbo4 making 300hp we'd say the same thing...its never ending...ultimately comes down to preferences and what you prefer.

Luckily both my husband and I are Manual transmission drivers. Our 3 vehicles have it. After I drive my mom's 08 Honda accord v-6 or my daughter's 98 accord v-6 I miss my tsx. (Must be the automatic). With all the driving I do (32,000 miles a year) I think the tsx has enough power for me.

Bought my TSX because it is a four and it has chain driven cams, and a good looking body.
I also like Acura's marketing with only four variations, NAV/No-Nav, 6MT or 5AT.

I was nervous about it at first considering I drove both the '00 v6 accord and '01 tl type s. But then I saw how much money i was saving per month on gasoline. :P
