Delay in Gear Shift

I just got a brand new TSX, it hasn't even been a day of driving and already I am noticing there is a delay in shifting from gears to gears. The RPM tends to run up high and it feels like a "kick" everytime a gear shifts into the next one.

Is this normal? The way my car shifts its gears doesn't feel smooth at all.

i think there is a delay between the first gear and the second gear when i drive around 2000 to 2500RPM. if i step on the gas harder, i wont feel it. and it only happens between the 1st and 2nd gears. i think it is normal.

you could have your dealer check that out tho

It wouldn't hurt to take it back to the dealership and have them check it out.

yeah i have that same delay when driving the V6 in Sport mode. u can hit the right paddle shifter and it'll take about 1 second before the engine decides to switch gears. it will over-rev before shifting to 2nd gear, makes me miss my Integra GSR.

In cold temperatures, the 1----->2 change is kinda rough/unrefined. No rev hang though.

If I module the throttle properly it goes away. It also goes away after the car is warmed up.

That's all I got. Not sure what you're experiencing here, though.

Did you ever figure out what happened?

I had the same problem. It usually happened when I was driving downhill on the freeway or just going down hill and when I was pressing the break, the RPMs would shoot up and hold in one spot and then if you listen closely, you'd hear this slight humming noise. Then suddenly the car would thrust forward and the RPMs drop dramatically. This happened for the first time also the second day I got my TSX and I only had like 30 miles on it then.

I took it to the dealer but they couldn't figure out what the problem was, I wasn't able to reproduce it, although I have been since I took it in, it always seems to happen on the same part of the freeway. They just sent me home telling me that gear shifting is normal.

I have a 2011 TSX 4cylinder automatic. I'm debating taking it back again but not sure what good it will do, it never is able to be duplicated when you want it to.

I have noticed it in mine too. Seems to happen when I am not really pushing on the gas too much. Seems normal since the TL has more of a lag problem IMHO.

I think it is just how our tranny works to help keep unnecessary force off the tranny between shifts. Computer changes that when you are in sport mode to help make the shifts "quicker" if you want to say that.

I only had the 6MT, so not familiar with the sport mode. What does it purportedly do?

I'm assuming the lag is due to stomping on the pedal... common in autos like the '03 Maxima I used to have.

torque converter or maybe the car is downshifting early and then realizing its wrong so it shifts up?

Isn't it a grade logic phenomena? I've heard of Civics doing this.
