Yeah, yeah, another 3.2TL transmission thread

I'm going to go crazy fixing cars for my kids. Okay, I've got a 2003 3.2TL that has just tossed it's transmission cookies. standard well known problem, so I'm looking at options. fwiw, the car has 156k on it, and other than this issue, it runs flawlessly. Trying to get daughter back on the road for the least amount of money.
  1. rebuild it per a shop that sends out the tranny now, he used to do the swaps, but doesn't any more. He states that the shop he uses replaces all of the stuff that caused the original transmission to fail. Ballpark cost is $2600. I hesitate doing this, because I've read thread after thread that the AV6 swap is the way to go.
  2. AV6 swap. Put in a transmission that was designed correctly. I've read that this has been done with great success. But what is it that you ask for? A 2006/2007 AV6 transmission and people selling them will know what I want? On the swap itself, any ballpark costs for the labor?

If I go this route, any readers in the Northern Atlanta area, can you recommend a shop that will do this work?
Appreciate any feedback.

Yes, ask for a 2006-2007 Accord V6 (aka AV6) automatic transmission; make sure the donor Accord is NOT one of they Hybrid models; that is a different transmission.

I've seen guys reporting as little as $500 for labor to do the AV6 swap which is definitely on the low end. You'd have to do some asking around locally. Maybe your transmission guy has some recommendations.

Keep in mind that "AV6" is a term that only has any meaning on these forums. If you or your mechanic is sourcing the transmission, you're looking for transmission code BAYA. Do *not* allow any other transmission to be substituted, even if someone tells you it's compatible. BAYA only (from '06-'07 Honda Accord V6).
