Lmao I know right, reading this time capsule was very interesting to see people's opinions about Acura when they were in their prime.

This thread was made when my dad bought his first Acura, a brand new 2000 3.2 TL that's still being driven by me to this day and still runs like a champ lol.

Since then we've bought an 04 TL dynamic 6 Speed manual (got written off in 2007, stupid old people) a 2011, 2014 and now a 2017 RDX for my mom and a 2012 TL after Lexus pissed off my dad because they couldn't fix electrical problems on his ES350.

So yeah I guess you could say my family would buy another Acura lmao.

Only if it had a 4 speed, not a 5 speed.
I'd like to find a low mileage RL from about 2005 - 2008. I like the lines on that car. Other than that, nothing in their current lineup excites me much. I do not care for the current TLX or RLX. If buying new I'd rather go for a Genesis and pocket the change. I've got an Azera that I like a lot.

Kind of an odd qualification, doubly so given neither are even offered any more and haven't for years. That said, I would take it from a different perspective in that if the Acura I was considering had any kind of an autotragic transmission, I'd immediately continue my search. Given Acura is no longer offering any cars with three pedals under the dash, I'll be looking further afield next time around.

The 4speeds weren't that much more reliable than the 5speed. My transmission was replaced in May of 2006 with the updated 5speed tranny and has been working ever since.

Thanks, I hear you.

I suppose another way to look at is this; I have roughly 25-40 driving years left to me, so my plan is to build a small stable of cars with three pedals under the dash, so I'm thinking with some judicious purchasing, I should be able to cover my automotive needs until I'm no longer able to drive.

Inside joke. Not related - I've owned an Acura 5 speed manual and 4 speed auto. Zero tranny issues.

All Honda manuals are bullet proof when serviced properly. I heard the older 4speed autos from the 80s to early 90s were more reliable but shifted harsher. I find the 6speed autos seem to be Hondas best automatic so far.

The latest TLX transmission fiasco is embarrassing. I have a friend who was ready to hand over cash for a TLX and I pointed out the transmission thread in the TLX forum. He read over it and got an Accord Hybrid instead.

Guess he figured he can't have transmission problems in a car with no transmission :p

Got an 01 and 13 TL but probably heading to Audi now. Test drove the new A5 Sportback and that Turbo 2.0 has more power than the '18 TLX V6 I recently test drove. The A5 was very impressive.

You do get what you pay for with Audi and BMW. Yeah they're more expensive than Acuras but at least they're modern while Acuras are still old school with N/A V6's that can't even break 300hp alone. Only thing I worry about the German brands is the valves start to carbon up not even at 30K because of direct injection and turbo charging :/ I like my cars to last forever.

For me my dream Acura would be a clean 2003 CL type s with the 6speed manual.
Those cars were so light and quick and rare and with full bolt on's they can be quite the sleeper. Wish they weren't so hard to find without ridiculously high mileage.

On a J series, I'm not that scared of mileage.
I passed on a 270K mile 05 6MT TL for $3500 out the door...Anthracite Metallic...
Looked at it as a loss if I were to flip it because I'd be 6 or 7 into it by the time I was done...
I'm a fucking idiot...I should have jumped on that, I'd have a pretty and reliable manual sedan I can drive my kid in as a 3rd car.

Not sure if it was you or not, but someone recently posted there were only something like 2,500 CL-S 6MTs ever built. Yeah, a rare bird indeed.

I had to look up the CL vs TL curb weight...
03 Type S ~3500
04 TL ~3500

Funny thing, I just looked them up as well (except I looked up a 2006 TL 6MT), I was surprised to see the 2003 CL-S is actually longer than the TL.

Eat, yup, I'm really good at that. Last October and November I was involved in a fitness challenge at work and I managed to log 675 running miles in those two months; I could not believe how much food I had to eat to keep from passing out at certain times.

Yeah, prior to October of last year my biggest month ever was about 280 miles; not too shabby for a chubby old fart.

I didn't start running again until I was in my mid fifties, and even then it was really-really slow. Funny thing, I hung in there and got faster. Here are some shots from a race a couple of years back which a friend of mine turned into an amusing PowerPoint, complete with a photo-shopped final frame (he added the guy in the middle):

The race: Massabesic 10-Miler 30-Aug-2014
The course: A scenic 10-Mile loop around Massabesic lake, complete with about 850' of elevation changes (up and down)
Title of the PowerPoint: "The Battle of Massabesic"

Contender #1: Mr. TAMP (Tats, Accessories, Muscles, and Piercings):

Contender #2: Fat old man (i.e. none other than horseshoez):

Mr. TAMP at the 3.5 mile mark with a comfortable 2+ minute lead:

Fat old man struggling up a long hill at the 3.5 mile mark:

With 9.95 miles in the bag and 0.05 miles to go, Mr. TAMP is looking good for the win:

Uh-oh, trouble in paradise; fat old man lurking in the background:

Final official untouched race photo just prior to the finish line (finish time was 1:19):

Edited final photo...
With .001 miles to go, "Get the hell out of my way, fat old man heading for the beer tent!":

yeah I heard that too. It would be especially hard for me since I live in Canada and the only one for sale here is in Calgary and it's pushing nearly 300k km. All the good ones are in the states. There are 2 right now that caught my eye on auto trader. I even saw one with the competech supercharger on it lol.

Original Buyer (Well my Parents); 2G TL Type S with 230K
Second Hand; 2G MDX bought with 72K now almost 100K...
Next in Line:
Acura ZDX or 4G TL SH-AWD 6MT.

I would not buy any current gen Acuras except the NSX... Why? New Acuras look very boring and generic, I like the old Acura.. They had Balls and Dared on their Designs..

Hey I know it's all subjective to the buyers eyes but when you can't draw a line between a new Acura or a Hyundai something went terribly bad.... New MDX for example to me looks incredibly Generic, You can spot the beautiful fat ass of a 2G MDX from a mile away and say is that an AUDI Q7? The new MDX is like spotting a Kia, Hyundai, etc..

I won't even say anything about the 4G TL which to me is one of the most Under-rated Acuras of all time, Styling wise is the most bonkers Acura ever went.... 3G TL was never appealing to me specially because it tried too hard to look edgy and sporty... Also if SH-AWD can do wonders for my MDX it's must be pretty darn sweet on a TL.

I couldn't agree more...
I happen to love the ZDX...
the 4G I think was harder to make look nice, but it's been done that's for sure. Very futuristic.
If I can find another 3G 6MT that hasn't been ass raped for cheap, I'd probably snag it. I'm in a different financial position than I was when I bought the Wagon and I kinda need another option that's viable for a baby seat.

The 3G is still a car that turns my head.

I agree TOTALLY on the MDX. If I were an SUV guy, 2008 to 2011 for me, please.

I miss having manual for a daily...otherwise I'd be all over an MDX.
Can't lie...having space and ability to seat 7 is VERY tempting on the MDX.
I think there were some model years to avoid though, can't remember which.

Depends on the kind of problem you wish to have hahahaha, 07-09 had issues with the HFL unit which killed the battery and left you stranded, Also the radiator ATF Warmer liked to fail and destroy your transmission. 10-13 have very bad oil consumption issues which are not easy to fix (Some 07-09 also had these issues apparently, My MDX is not one of them).

10-13 have Adaptive Cruise Control and 6 Speed AUTO with a complete Facelift that changed the front grille, front bumper and rear bumper, They also changed the tailpipes from oval to square.

IMO 07-09 looks better specially the rear end but to each its own. I would love some ACC love in mine.
