Putting in Nav on a NonNav car
Now that RON has hooked up dvd to the nav, I want one. I was wondering what I wouldh ave to get to put it in a non nav car. I will need the nav screen, dvd in trunk, new ac unit and what else? how much do you think it would cost from a junkyard? Please reply. All of your info is helpful

It's not as simple as you think. The AC controls run through the NAV touch screen and that's a whole other setup. You are better off getting an aftermarket screen somewhere I think. (A lot cheaper too I'm sure)

Way to much money and trouble to convert! You would have to add computer chips and more than meets they eye. Why don't you just buy a new Nav system like from Alpine or Eclipse and have a pro shop do the install, and those screens will play DVDs. You'll still spend less money than a non-Nav to Nav conversion. Just my opinion. BTW - it's never been done. Listen to StreetEffectz!

You'd need to install 7 gyros into the frame for GPS tracking I think. I also wish I had gotten navi. I would like the stock look of the screen but then I couldn't use climate control... unless it was relocated (I'm talking about just installing the dash, screw navi!).

Dude get the Alpine Navigation system!!! Thats what is origonal equipment on the TL!!! They are probably the frontrunners in this game as well as the audio $hit too. Don't get me wrong, Panasonic Nav is good too... I think Alpine has a contract with Acura or something? Just my $.02 cents...

Anybody ever try playing an Alpine NAV DVD in the Acura DVD player? Does it work? Is it true that the Acura DVD is one year behind the Alpine because Acura pulls out all the car dealers except Acura?

Yeah cause I'm looking for a used nav model TL but hopefully won't settle for a Non-Nav. There pretty expensive here in Chicago. I hear the cars run like $26,000 and up and that's a 99'. Those Acura dealers are crazy. $26,000 for a 99' TL w/ like 60,000 miles sounds nuts. If the car ain't certified...forget it...another $1,200 for a warrantee...I don't think so. I want a certified TL, with NAv, for around $20,000.00(if not less like $18,000.00). I know it sounds crazy but with how much I'm putting down...somebody should reconsider. That's why I'm holding out until like July or August. What does anyone think?
