Unhappy my 4spd trans is on it's way out...

yes.

my 4spd transmission is on its way out. it started acting really stupid at the end of July so i did a 3x1 with DW-1 and after that it was okay but in the month of August I noticed the problem again. on my coming back home from a trip from NY. The transmission started to downshift into 1st harsh and delay when coming to a complete stop.

for example i had it in sports shift and when im looking at the dash and see that it downshifts from 4 to 3 and then quickly 2 and 1 but it takes 2 seconds for it to downshift to gear 1. and if i press the gas during that 2 second delay it would jerk hard and the tires will spin.

so the clutch packs are not catching or engaging correctly. I then attempted to flush all the old fluid out using the 3x3 method. and the fluid was dark. So i added DW-1 and the problem still presisted.

so what its doing now is. It it hovers (goes up a few rpms and the car doesn't move and then shifts) when shifting from 1 to 2 gear and slams into gear and it hovers when shifting 2 to 3 gear slams into gear. 3 to 4 is fine though

i got the death trouble code P0740 a few weeks ago. Cleared it and wanted to see if it would come back and it did. I cleared it 4 or 5 times this month and it keeps coming back. I know it pretains to the torque converter lock up clutch not engaging. but its internal and its not something i can do myself. so it requires a new tranny.

so i guess i'm off to the dealership then. I cannot afford to buy another car right now. if i have to then i will. to get to and from work. but I'm going to see what acura says about the replacement of a 4 speed auto trans.

i think i might be quoted $2000, $3000 or even $4000. not sure but I need this car. I just replaced the timing belt, water pump with my local acura dealership a year ago.

so idk...

You can try cleaning the solenoids or replacing them and putting fresh fluid in again and see if it helps.

As for when the time comes to replace the trans look into trans rebuilding places. It will likely be a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Clean them all.

It may be a temp fix it may not. There is NO solid fix other than a Rebuild/Replacement of the trans. The 99s seem to handle/make the trans last better with the solenoid cleaning better.
