gearshift light not working.. anyone else have the same problem?

does anyone have the same problem?? I was all driving last night and at a quick glance i looked down to my gearshift and i was like.... didn't there used to be a light?? i thought i was tripping so i asked my friend, and hes all... yeah i think it did use to light up... then i remembered that my friend's integra had the same problem.. her gearshift light will go out from time to time, and she used to hit it until it turns back on.... so thats what I did, and after i hit it 3 times the light came back on! that's so ghetto... you think acura woulda fixed the problem after all these years... and to think of it, i think it even happened to my 95 accord before... c'mon honda!!

that should be covered under warranty right?

nope your talkin about the wrong light.

the light at the gearshifter that backlights the p,r,n,d5,d4,d3,d2,d1.

oh BTW to get that light out you must remove the whole center console, gearshift knob, gearsellector plate, ect, ect, ect

This is weird - mine went out this weekend, too. Anyone have directions on the steps necessary to remove the facia pieces in order to change the bulb? (The bulb itself sells for only $8 at the dealer and the labor to replace it is around $190 !!)

buy the bulbs at an auto part store for 3bux a pr. and get a medium sized philips screwdrive and start taking off all of the center console.
Pull the faux wood trim off and start unscrewing,

The labor costs at the dealer is so Fu&king rediculous. I dont see why they have to try to screw you out of your hard earned money!!! Ok I had to vent thanks

if you ever try to do this bulb replacement you'll understand. it's about a 1-2 hour job.
I've always done my own stereo work so it doest bother me to tear apart my car cuz i know the big ape at the stereo shop wont be as carefull as I.

labor rates are pretty much standard at dealers, may fluctuate a bit between A and honda but i doubt by much and then your treated like the millions other shmucks.(hey i had an Accord so i'll say it)
as far as warr.. will they replace a brakelight under warr? I dont know just asking. I bet a good att. with a willingness to compramise will get you alot at an Acura dealer. Prob not so much at Honda.

Well, I took the plunge and tore apart the car Saturday to replace the bulb. Thanks to a well-documented DIY primer (link below), I got the job done in around two hours. No "extra" parts at the end and the illumination to the console is restored. Man, it is a chore, though.

That is so weird because the EXACT same thing happened to me! And I also drove a 95 Accord before this!

Yeah I just noticed the shift lights went out also, and I hit it with my knuckles a couple of times it came back on.
