DIY: S2K Push Button Start
I posted this mod in my progress thread but I figured I should post it in a new thread so it can be added to the DIY thread if it is worthy enough.
DISCLAIMER:
This engine start button is in ADDITION to your turn-key ignition. As long as you tap the wires, there will be no changes to your existing wiring. THIS IS NOT KEYLESS IGNITION. You will still need to put in the key and turn it to the ON position. THIS MOD IS FOR COOL FACTOR ONLY. IT IS NOT A REAL KEYLESS IGNITION.
Here is the wiring diagram:
Parts list:
Engine start button: Part number 35881-S2A-911
30-amp Relay: here
16-18 gauge wire
20-22 gauge wire
heatshrink (various sizes) and heat gun
The install is pretty straight forward. Feel free to ask any questions. I will answer to the best of my ability.
Here are a couple videos to show it really works:
Happy Modding

I'd drill a hole somewhere and mount it flush.
Maybe there; by the climate control? I forgot whats behind there. Something important I'm sure...
Id like it down by the shifter somewhere, but I don't think there's enough space.

Nice job, man - I see the front seat sitting there in the garage - hopefully you'll sort that out soon!
This might be a dumb suggestion, but you can put the Engine Start button where the cup holders are - it'll just be cool to see the panels open and reveal the button before you press it. But then again, you might accidentally start/turn off the engine when you're using the cup-holders...
But yeah, by the climate control would be perfect

yeah there is one other person i know of with the S2K starter button on his 2nd gen and that is where he put it, in the empty space next to the climate control. who knows, i might end up putting it there as well.
as far as keyless start goes, i encourage anyone who is electronically inclined to tackle retrofitting the Lexus Keyless ignition button.
but the S2K button is just so much easier. it only took me about 45 min, and thats because i had to find the starter (black/white) wire myself. i couldnt find it in the ignition harness or anywhere in the steering column. so i had to look in the fuse box.

S2k's themselves are the same way with not actually having a keyless ignition. Still have to have the key turned before you can push the start button. At least if I remember right. Nice small mod though and good write up.

isn't there another lighter socket in the center arm rest box?

yeah there is another socket in the center console, but the one on the center stack is just so much more convenient for plugging in things like a Nav or Radar detector.
for the S2000, does anyone know if you HAVE to use the button to start the car? or can you still turn the key to start the car? if youre forced to use the button, i think in that respect this mod is better you still get to keep both options.

Arent the same wire you connected to the s2k switch used on the regular ignition switch? Is there anyway you could reprogram the s2k key to the TL? If so youldnt you be able to use the s2k as the sensor? Im just throwing stuff out here.

Can anyone confirm is the car is still able to be started via the regular key ignition? It would make more sense if you were forced to use the button.
Another idea is to add a simple $4 kill switch. This adds some security/functionality.
Also, do you think I could install the button with just a drill? Would I need to buy a dremel? How much do you think someone would charge to have this installed?

With the way I have wired it, you have the option to still use the key to start the car. You do not need to use the starter button every time.
You can install the button if you have like a 3/4" drill. The button is around 3/4" to 1" in diameter.
