You might have a burnt bulb or fuse. Check those out.

It means one of your rear brake lamps are burnt out. There are 4 of them on our cars. Have someone press the brake pedal, and view the rear lights to find out which one is burnt out.

Does anyone know if using a 7443 LED bulb instead of a glass filament bulb would cause this as well?

I know an LED bulb makes this light come on in Volvo's... surely Acura doesn't make it that sensitive. Seems like it would be triggered by the circuit being broken.

Led bulb did it for me. It probably wont do anything, but it bothered me enough to take them out and put regular bulbs back in.

What year is your TL? Reason I ask is because the '02 owner's manual shows the only time this lights is:

1. Parking brake not fully released.

2. Problem with braking system such as low fluid, no/low vacuum, etc. It states "if this indicator lights while driving to pull over immediately and consult dealer."

In regards to #2 I doubt that a shot bulb would be cause for pulling over and calling the dealer immediately.

If all your brakelamps work, then check your taillights too by turning on your headlights and making sure that all four of your taillights are illuminated. This will also trigger the "brake lamp" warning light.

If the brake and taillight functions are fully operational, then you must have a wiring problem or computer glitch. Take it back for the dealer to examine.

if your brakes all work then i think i know the problem. you might want to try to pour in some more brake fluid. or check your brake pads (your cars probably new so it should be worn out anyway) but im sure its the low brake fluid...

Dude, there's some confusion here. The "Brake" indicator light comes on when you leave your parking brake on or when there's a problem in the braking system. The "Brake Lamp" indicator light comes on when you have a burnt out brake lamp and/or taillight bulb.

I believe MIKESTL is referring to his "Brake Lamp" indicator light.

Hey, Mike:
It happens today to my Acura TL 2001. Before replacing 'Brake Lamp Failure Sensor', try resetting all warning light. It could be just matter of resetting all warning light as it happens to me. Follow the you-tube link below to see how to reset:

Brake lamp indicator light on

My 2001 TL brake lamp light indicator light started coming on while driving but would go off when restarting the car. Come back on when pressing the brake peddle. All lights were working though. I changed the all the bulbs and that did the trick.

as well as 13 year old bulbs, there may be corrosion inside the connection for bulbs
A number of products can be used to clean and protect new bulb

Don't forget to ck all your ground wires, there is a run on those failing recently,,also ck the small braided wire ones from engine to frame
Problems tend to appear in multiple reports of the same thing~

If dash lights dim, doesn't start as fast... the main ground for battery under batt box is showing up with the actual connector on its end- loose on the wire !

all it takes is 1 bulb in the rear to be out, even in the center brake light in rear window
and you get a Brake LAMP warning when you press the brake

if you get a RED Brake system light- that's a stop driving and inspect situation

Dejones108 Welcome to azine, and thank you for your diligence in finding an existing thread, most subjects have one,,pretty hard to stump this band!
Welcome to family of acura nuts!!

I had the brake lamp on when I started the car a few weeks ago on a particularly cold morning, as soon as I put it in reverse it went away and hasn't come back since..

sure it wasn't the main brake system warning light?
when its cold out the slider inside master cyl CAP that watches fluid level can get sticky

Plus, the cold can cause shrinkage. You know, like the brake fluid.

I believe it was an orange brake light (!), I only noticed it as I was already shifting into reverse at which point it went away and never came back.

It was -30 C so I chalked it up to something being frozen. Brake fluid looks ok.

It's about a year and a half old, was thinking of changing the pads and cleaning the calipers so perfect time I guess.

remember to remove and grease the caliper slider pins- the whole system depends on their smooth operation to move the caliper,
thus causing friction = braking torque = slowing of vehicle

the reason to change it even more often in moisture laden air areas is explained in the Wikipedia thread on hygroscopic
not to be confused with hydroscopic, which is the ability to see underwater

I like the harbor freight tools vac pump/brake bleeder kit for 20-25$
for simple 1 person brake flushing

also ck the fit of the bleeder screw threads (especially those running aftermarket legend calipers (guess how I know),
Some are loose and will allow air leaks as you open and close to empty the catch bottle (or worse- the 2 person manual pump/hold method)

Remove the bleeder valve/nipple and wrap a few layers of Teflon tape around the threads- in the direction UP of the threads

normally I would not suggest its use in area that gets moved after install, but this is the fix for loose screws~
