A-Spec Bodykit

I am trying to get an A-spec kit for an 05 RL but the dealer says that the kit is only listed for 06-08. I know that there isnt any visible difference in the 05 RL and the 06-08 and the only thing I can think of why the dealer doesnt list the 05 RL for the A-spec kit is that may be the kit was offered for 06+ years and not 05? Can anyone chime in on this and let me know if an 06-08 A spec kit will indeed fit an 05 RL, thanks in advance

Yeah the link isnt working, I'll call tim later and see what he says as to where I can find the files.

As far as price, I shopped around and the best price that I was able to get for kit was $1200 shipped. A couple of days ago an acura dealer out of GA posted the rear lip as it was the last piece they had sitting in store inventory, I called to see if they had the whole kit in Celestial silver and they indeed did, I had the parts manager set up a private listing for the kit yesterday for $825 plus $50 shipping, with the buy it now I was able to use Microsoft Live Cashback for 11% and bring the final cost to $785 shipped.

The wheels got put on yesterday

Also, the FedEx guy delivered the A-spec kit and the trunk spoiler, I'll try to install everything today if the weather stays fair.

Edit: BTW I have the directions for the install but any pointers for the install, especially by people who have done the install them self?

I plan to write a DIY as well if all goes well

Instructions are intimidating as they were in case of my 3G TL but once I got going it was fairly simple which I hope is the case for the RL as well.

Here is the DIY for the decklid spoiler.
https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/e-003-diy-oem-deck-spoiler-install-drilling-3m-adhesive-499938/

Others have done it without drilling, using the heavy duty red 3M doublesided foam tape without issue.

Here is a thread detailing issues with the post install

^^ Thanks for the links Chas, seems like I'd need the 3M tape for the spoiler and may be the front lip to make sure there are no gaps, 3G TL type S deck lid and front lip spoiler has the same problem .

yea but unlike the TL-s with the RL you need to vut the bumper for larger fog light opening and you need to cut the bumper to accept the larger exhaust opening for the a-spec lip. the side skirts are fairly simple.

THats next, I just finished installing the spoiler and the side skirts. Spoiler took 30 mins and sides took an hour, not bad over all. For spoiler I took off all the OEM 1/4" wide skimpy double sided tape and installed one inch wide 3M double sided tape, both towards the corners and also the length of the spoiler. I dont think I could have gotten it any more flush, it came out perfect

I'll be tackling the bumpers next and hopefully have them both done before the end of the day.

I had to strand the project in the middle as it was getting late yesterday . I finished the rear lip in a couple of hours, cutting the bumper was easy due to the template but the hardest part of the whole isntall was finding the damn marks on the inside of the OEM bumper.

There are a total of nine marks for the holes to be drilled on to top and 4 marks on the underside, two for bolts and two for push pins. At first I couldnt find them at all and at this point I thought may since the car is an 05 and the kit wasnt offer for 05 and was offered for 06 plus may be the bumpers were not molded with the marks in them .

At this point I brought the bumper inside the house where there is better lighting to see if I can measure and drill the holes, right when I was about to measure I found one of the marks, now in case of the TL the marks are very visible but in case of the RL they are VERY VERY faint and were only visible very slightly even in a highly lit room.

I'll install the front piece today, to anyone who is thinking about installing the kit them self just make sure you have a rotary tool such as dremel with you, it makes cutting very very easy.

some pictures of the car still in the garage, more pictures to follow in a couple of days.

^^ Yup, black chrome indeed. I'm taking a break whilst posting this, as we speak the bumper is all prepared for the lip to go on, holes for the fogs have been cut, all the mounting holes have been drilled. I took all the old grill pieces off to clean them off and apply a few coats of matte black plastic enamel to give them all a homogeneous look.

itll definately fit.

the only reason the dealership said it wont/might is because the are instructed to say only what the labels say because of liability issues.

^^ It sure does, now only if I can find a decent pair of headlights from some where to modify.

I completed the install last night and all things went smooth. The dealership we bought the RL from had refinished the front bumper due to rock chips etc (it still is the original bumper since the vin tag is still on it). Due to the refinish there was some overspray on the fog lights, grill in the middle, the two small grills towards the corners and the under body wind deflector. I took all of them off, refinished them and painted the with high heat plastic matte enamel.

Here are a few pointers to people who are thinking of doing this install.

-- Make sure you have plenty of time, I was hoping to do the whole install myself in half a day but with the amount of work there is its best if you take it slow and do one piece at a time, rushing the install is only going to increase the chances of screwing up.

-- Although not recommended by the install guide it is highly advised that you have dremel, I was able to use it numerous times to cut the bumper/cut the fender liner etc.

-- Wash all the push-pins with soap before re-installing them, I have a special tool to take them out of the bumper, you dont need the tool but just need two medium sized flat head screwdrivers to take the pins out. There is usually a lot of dirt and in my case salt as well in the pins so be patient.

-- Measure twice before cutting/drilling etc.

-- Have a flash light to find the tiny scribble marks located inside the bumpers for the holes.

-- Read the instructions a couple of times to get acquainted.

-- You need a scale to measure and the measurmeants are in millimeters rather than inches, if you cant find a measuring tape/scale that is in mm then just convert all the measurments into inches (eights) and write them next to the dimensions on the install guide.

-- You need 3mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm drill bits for the whole install, convert the figures into inch eighths and find the bits closest in dimensions to the mm figures.
