F-008: Painting the "Not an Ashtray" cover
Ever since I fixed the latch on the "Not an Ashtray" I've been bothered by the fact that the black doesn't match the rest of the "parchment" interior.
I was at Walmart a few days ago to buy some chrome paint to repaint some of the trim and I noticed that one of the paint colors looked suspiciously similar. I don't know if they sell this "camo" paint everywhere or its just because I'm in Alabama but the "Sand" color matches the parchment interior almost perfectly.
Taping it up was probably the hardest part, since there's not a lot of flat surface to stick to on the sides. I didn't do any prep on the surface, just made sure to give it a good wipe down, since I wanted to keep the texture. I gave it a couple coats of primer and three coats of paint. I could probably give it a matte clear coat on top but I'll just see how well it holds up for now.
It's a very very close match. If you're looking for a difference, you can definitely tell that the new paint is a bit more saturated (and this might depend on if/how much the interior has been faded from the sun), but if the previous had done this I never would have realized.
I'm thinking about doing this for the other parts of the center console since there are some pretty noticeable worn and faded spots

The inconvenient truth
It does look a lot better. The black that it was before didn't seem to match anything. Now u got to use it as an ash tray to show the designers you the boss!

"I'm thinking about doing this for the other parts of the center console since there are some pretty noticeable worn and faded spots" I knew that was coming as soon as I saw the pictures. Looks and matches great, exactly what I would do. Funny, I was thinking about the same thing a few days ago while sitting in my car, like why is the cover black?

I am thinking of using that pocket to fabricate a custom made bluetooth speaker. I would send Waze directions to it from my phone so the directions don't interrupt my music on the main speakers.....Nice job once again, make sure you post pics of the completed job. You only paid 3k? How many miles on car? It doesn't even matter, you have a great car, just maintain it and you will be happy. A passenger asked asked me the other day if mine was a 2017 BMW (lol!) cause it looks and drove so new. They are now looking for a 2008...lol...
