Coolant in transmission and ATF in radiator. Help!

I have 2006 Acura RL with 138,000 highway miles. Friday on the way home from work the transmission showed hesitation at fist two gears but on highway no issue till slowing down at the exit it started again with big jolt and the car lost power and started smoking from the engine. I pooled over and turned the engine off, coffee like liquid came out from the passenger site, top of the engine is covered with the same liquid. Towed the car to Acura dealership, they will do the flush of cooling system, transmission and replace radiator and all the hoses for $2K! Dipstick was showing same coffee like liquid in the transmission. Tech rep reassure me that trans should be okay... My local mechanic thinks otherwise. Worry on spending $2K for the job and still have transmission failure after. Who to trust? The car was up to this point with no issues, still rides and looks like new. Its garage kept and was babied. I read a lot on line that contaminated transmission even after several washes will eventually fail. Any opinions or similar experience with RL? According to Acura's technician it is common on MDX not on RL, just my luck.

I would recommend you do a 100% ATF exchange twice with one day of driving in between each exchange.

After the second 100% ATF exchange then add two doses of XADO AT EX120.

If your trans is sound then I think you'll be fine.

Thanks, according to Acura technician they plan to do several flashes with ATF. Two 8 ml syringes of XADO AT EX120?

My definition of a 100% ATF exchange is about 2 gallons since your RL's trans capacity is 7.6 quarts. Do that twice with a day of driving in between.

And yes 2 syringes of the XADO AT EX120.

It's vital that you get all the water out of the trans. Hence the over kill of the 200% of ATF exchange. Likewise, it's important that you drive the car for a day in between exchanges. The ATF needs to get into all the nooks and crannies to clean and flush the contaminants from the trans. Anything short of a 100% exchange will not do. Twice for insurance.

The XADO will repair micro scratches in the metal and bring their tolerances back towards nonminal specs.

Good luck.

Acura dealer replaced radiator and flushed several times transmission and cooling systems till all is clear. I had the car for two days with no issue. According to a Acura tech it is very unusual for 2006 RL, mostly MDX has this issue. I have no idea what caused it. I am an original owner of this car and this is a first issue I ever had with it at 138K.

Something inside the radiator failed causing the two fluids to mix.

I got discount from the dealer on radiator cost and 15% on labor, it came to $1,700.

as long as you didn't drive the car for long after the ATF pipe burst inside the radiator your AT will be fine.

Update on tranny?

I have an MDX, this just happened. Wondering if tranny remained unaffected? Thanks.

All good

The local Acura dealer did a great job. They probably flushed the tranny 6 times to get antifreeze out of the system. The car runs great after several months, hopefully will stay that way.
