Acura synthetic leather

I know many of you have complained about the leather in our cars. My complaint is with the synthetic leather (vinyl). My driver door below the armrest, the center armrest and the outside side panel of the pass. seat near the drivers side are all bubbled and puckered. looks bad. I caught the center armrest under the warranty so the dealer will replace that but the other stuff I realized after the warranty was over. ( I am just out of warranty). All these locations come into contact with skin. I lean my leg on the door and I rest my hand on the pass. seat side. Very discouraging and not sure how to fix short of replacing the parts.

If the dealer gives you no joy, and you have to do it yourself, check out local upholstery shops.

In my 1995 Legend, the drivers side bolster and some associated panels were repaired and you cannot tell.

In fact, when I took my car back to the dealer for something, the service writer, not my service writer, but one that also owns a Legend came to me and asked where I had the upholstery work done because he needed the same thing done to his car, as does every Acura Legend I have seen after 10-15 years.

So they may surprise you is all I mean, with what they may be able to do without replacement of parts. And the thing is, I would never have gone to this shop because of how it looked on the outside, but the guy did an excellent job. Oh and the referral came from the Acura dealer!

They also built up the lumbar support.

How far out of warranty are you? Is it based on months or mileage.

Also remember that mileage for warranty is actually increased by 5% due to the Honda odometer class action suit, so instead of 50,000 you are covered until 52,500 miles

I was thinking the same thing. My dealer replaced both my driver door panel and the center armrest for bubbling leather / pleather under warranty.

That said, if it cannot be done under warranty, my past experience with auto upholsterers has been excellent. With a good recommendation, I have found their work better than OEM.

With leather bubbling, I believe they will use a hypodermic to inject some fabric adhesive under the bubbled section and work the area. In some cases, they may need to replace the foam substrate below.

The new armrest looks good. Unfortunately they broke all the clips on the two side trim pieces on the rear of the armrest. Have to go back to get the pieces replaced. Nothing is easy.

They also approved a new seat cover and door trim panel. they are on order.

The dealership management really wants to please. It needs to get some new talented techs that care though.

Out of curiosity, was your car garage kept or out in the hot sun?

The same thing happened when my tech replaced my center armrest. Fortunately he had extra clips on hand rom a previous armrest replacement.

He showed me the replacement instructions.

In all fairness to your tech, the installation instructions that came with with replacement armrest indicte the clips are likely to be broken when removing the old armrest. Of course Acura parts do not include new clips with the replacement armrest.
