Acura 2005 UPDATE from Acura

Received in the mail today a 'Product Update' announcement from Acura.

Four (4) items included:
1. Front Door Speakers (error in gaskets that may allow water to enter)

2. Driver's Door Control Unit (unlocking the driver's door by touching the door handle or using the remote, the exterior and interior lights randomly may not illuminate)

3. Powertrain Control Module (current programming may cause the engine to stumble the first time you stop before the engine is fully warmed up)

4. AcuraLink Control Unit (after you start the car inside a structure such as a parking garage some of the vehicle's communication systems may work errratically, especially the AcuraLink real-time
traffic monitor)

Called my dealer today and made arrangements for a loaner car since the letter said to plan to leave your car all day.

Is it based on VIN or will it be all RL's. Seems as thought they will be doing a software upgrade.

I hope not, at this point everything seems to be working fine. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Add me to the list, I got my letter today. I'm waiting until I need my first oil change before bringing it in.

Got my letter yesterday. I have none of the issues, but I'm taking the car in next week to have them do precautionary service. They also agreed to provide a loaner since, according to the service writer, each check takes approx. 2 hours.

Did anyone who got the update notice also find this "recall" in the ownerlink website?

Nope, but I think that's because they are not treating it as a recall.

I did get a message on the RL screen today though.

Got the update notice today. I put the details in the wrong thread, my bad! If you care, it's in the thread titled "Acura Update = Improved Performance."

Had the "UPDATES" done yeaterday (3/7/05)..Did not notice anything different, probably because everything seemed to be working well prior to the updates.

I did notice however, that the XM box was replaced since all my XM presets were returned to "PREVIEW" and the radio code changed. I contacted XM radio to be sure they had the new radio code. They updated my profile and I verified the update on line.

Godd luck to all waiting to get the updates...

"New radio code"? Where did you find it? I had the update, but my dealer didn't give me another radio code. Thanks.

what are the new xm radio codes update supposed to do? i have noticed that a lot of times there is quite a delay when a new song comes on and the title and artist take a while to change, anyone else notice that? it'll change if you go to another station and come right back.

Yes I've noticed the same thing with the delay. Note though if you are on one station (in Audio Mode on your screen) and press enter on the knob, the song information immediately changes.

Something is strange about these new XM boxes.

I've also noticed the XM song info delay since the "Acura Update" - this was certainly not the case pre-update. Also, on the "intermittent door relocking" phenomena, my RL is very consistent on doing a relock after 07 to 08 minutes have elapsed, then ongoing in 8-9 minute intervals. But, at times, the doors will re-lock after only 1 minute. Very frustrating. The failure of the right-side mirror to re-position itself after backing up has only happened 2 times since the update.

My RL is also afflicted with VERY noisy brakes. The dealer even tried a procedure outlined in an Acura bulletin - they re-surfaced the rotors and the sanded the pads, but the noise returned on the very first drive out of the shop. I've been told new brake pads are under development.

Glad to see others relate the XM info delay problem. I get it as well and it is especially during the baseball games when inning, outs and score change. Has anyone called Acura CS re this? I will do so, but I think we all need to do this to let them know there is a problem.

My brakes have also begun to make a noise when braking lightly. Just started. And I now the the multiple door locking attempts. Very annoying.

I think we all need to call Acura CS and let them know about the problems.

I will say the car shifts better now after the update and I am getting my Acura Link messages now so there is a couple of positives out of the updates.

I just called Acura CS and told the rep about the lock and XM info delay problems. He said he just heard about the lock problem today from one customer. He had not heard about the XM info delay problem. I also mentioned the brake noise issue. He asked if I had reported the issues to the dealership. Tolhd him I had on the lock and XM but not on the brakes. He said he will send info to tech department and to dealership.

We really need to bug Acura CS on these issues. It doesn't take long to call and report the issues. 10-15 minutes. They will creat a case for you and then will follow up in a week to ten days.

I don't think the XM info delay problem is a result of the recent Acura replacement work. I've noticed the very same thing in my Infiniti FX35, which also has XM radio displayed through the nav screen. It happens regardless of station, and I've only noticed it within the past couple of weeks.

Re: the brakes, mine squeal when I first take off but quiet down after driving a while. I had the same problem with my Audi A6 and the dealership told me it was due to the combination of metallic pads and humidity and that it was normal with "high performance" brakes. I've read in the Infiniti forums that some of the coupes w/ Brembo brakes have the same problem.

I will try to see what you are talking about with the XM delay tomorrow.

As for brakes. Yeah, mine squeal backing up out of the garage and the first 1-2 stops then are fine. They only squeal if I have had them out in the rain or snow the day before. So I think it is just oxidation on the metallic pads. Something we have to live with I guess with " "high performance" brakes".

You can find your XM RADIO CODE by selecting XM radio and tune to Channel "0".
It is here that you will see the XM radio code.

After the update, my xm channels went to preview also, but all I had to do was reselect the stations without entering codes, etc like we did at inception.
One other noticable difference: When I backed my car out of the garage, and put the car in drive, the car used to "surge." After the update, that surge is gone and everything seems a little smoother.
I did have to take my car back after the update becuase the auto up/down on driver's door didn't "auto" anymore. All they had to do was reprogram the auto up/down switch. They gave me a free car wash for the 5 min "fix."

Darn, I found the same issue! Didn't associate it with the update though. Although after I played with the switch a little it seems to restore it Auto capability by itself, I'm afraid it actually become intermittent.

Interesting that you "played" with it a bit, the service mgr told me that you can actually "reprogram" it by how you hit those switches! What sequence or combinations I don't know..but be aware. Apparently when they did my door update, they had to program for where the window "should stop."
If yours is intermittent I would suggest you drop by the dealers, it should be a "quickie."
