2006 Acura RL A/C problems
The A/C in my 2006 RL recently stopped working (fan works/blows air but no cold air). Took it to a reliable indy shop. He checked everything and tried new compressor/expansion valve. Still doesn't work. His only remaining guess is that the controller unit in the dash is bad ($1200, and not available). Anyone else experience this? Have suggestions? I love the car but don't think I can live without A/C. Thanks.

See this thread. I had the same issue as you and basically replaced the entire system at an independent AC shop. Read through these forums twice after the AC shop gave up. I finally realized it's the temperature control that was defective. Bought one from eBay for a 2009-2012 Acura RL, plugged it in and my AC works like a charm. Spent approx $100.

Thanks very much, Geonico. When you say "temperature control", is there a more specific module/part name or # that'd help me understand what to talk the repair shop about?

http://m.ebay.com/itm/132155300403?_mwBanner=1 or search for part number 79610sjaa03 or search for Acura RL climate control module on eBay. It sits right above the radio. DO NOT buy a new one from the dealer. Buy one for the 09-12 model years on eBay instead.

Bought a refurbished control module on eBay ($125) and took it to the indy shop. Indy guy says he can't get my current unit out and that I'll need to take it to the dealer. Don't really want to go the dealer route but I'm running out of options and patience.

or just search YouTube for Acura RL radio removal... it's the one by HiTechElectronics. The part you need to replace sit on top of the radio. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove and replace the bad module.

I had same problem but it was a simple fix. There was loose connector under cooling radiator (radiator was changed after leaking AT oils) drivers side. Multimeter showed correct voltage on AC clutch but in reality it did not got enough amperage through the bad connection. I guess this is easy to verify: use a 12v 21W bulb to see if the AC cluch-end of the harness is getting enough power (I think about 3 amps is the clutch rating).
My AC was working fine before the radiator change so I knew there cannot be a big problem.

Well, I ended up having to go to the dealer. Turns out in addition to a bad compressor the condenser and one of the lines were leaking. Bottom line: I now have a whole new a/c system which is working fine. Cost me a pretty penny but I love the car and wasn't ready to give it up.

I hope you bought the 09-12 unit, they have extra buttons for other function, just a back up plan when your navi screen died. Also the unit is SMD LED instead of regular old bulb on the 05-08 model.
