Third Brake light Flasher Installed

My buddy has a brake flasher installed on his Motorcycle and i've seen it installed on a couple of cars. Really gets your attention. I've had a couple of close calls from people behind me not paying attention and not realizing I was braking until I hear them lock up their brakes while I clench my azzhole closed and hope they don't hit me while in traffic or stopping at a light.

I found this module here (PS the Shipping is a bit high because it is from Canada, but worth it)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0036RFLR6

And with the good reviews it got I figured I would give it a try. I am not disappointed! It took me all of 10 minutes to install. I could do it again in less time than that now that I know how to install it. Very simple!

All Taped up and ready to tuck up and away. The tape is just to keep the wires neat, I used heat shrunk wire connectors to join up the wires.

Tucked away and wrapped a bit of tape around the module to prevent it from bouncing around up there.

All Done. No wires to be seen

Simple instructions that came with the module

Here is a video I made: (Sorry for the sound but I had to sit my phone on a running air conditioner)

I would have liked a faster flash but I like the rate of flash on this unit for the fact that a Cop can't claim that i'm running some type of emergency light.

If you look on youtube there are all tyes of flashers. Some fast, some custom, some strobe type etc...

But be prepared to spend upwards of $50 + for the module!

Nice, I have something similar on one of my bikes, and I plan on picking it up for my other bike and both cars. $25 shipped isnt bad at all.

For those wanting to save a few bucks, the same seller is selling it here for $22 shipped.

http://www.ecrater.com/p/9116214/mot...ake-tail-light

You can also build your own:

http://www.sentex.net/~mec1995/circ/motflash.html

But for $25, Id rather buy the unit OP used.

Its perfectly legal, and the idea is to get peoples attention. Some cars come with it from the factory.

Yea, as long it isn't a continuous flash it is legal. Thats why most of the units on the market keep it to three flashes then solid.

Not with the module I used, but there are more expensive ones on the market that are customizable. Flash Speed, Flash Count, etc...

So today was my first full day driving around in stop and go traffic and I saw results right away. Many cars stayed far back or changed lanes. Not sure if it annoys them or if the light just causes them to steer clear without even thinking about it, but it works either way lol.

I like this idea a lot, thanks for the post! And thanks civic for the additional links...

I'm getting one of these for my new bike as well. I want that to be as obnoxious as possible. But this seems to be just enough for a car to help get attention without getting in trouble. I often find myself tapping my brakes down here during rush hour when the expressway turns into a parking lot.

If extremely concerned about law enforcement, I suppose a switch could be wired up to the front so that if you were ever asked to depress your brake, you flip the switch

would pigs really care that much about that?

emergency vehicles are already like that with crazy flashing everything i don't see why this would not be allowed. Newer cars have weird blinking tail lights already so i see no reason how a cop could do anything, unless he's on his RAG

Agreed. Down here is the only place I see people drive through rain with their hazards on. No one seems to get a ticket for much--apparently one dim ass bulb somewhere in the back is good enough for a brakelight. That was just mentioned in case someone was ultra worried or had strict inspection guidelines

In most places, if cops see a car with strobes (or anything resembling an emergency vehicle), its illegal (there are some instances where you can get permission, but you cannot use it on the roads, only for show purposes).

I dont know how it is in Canada though, so check your laws.

And when we get torrential down pours here in VA, people put their hazards on. Ive done it a few times to help with visibility. I dont want to get rear ended by some dumbass.

PS - flasher unit ordered

I find it pretty damn annoying & distracting. On bikes & especially on a car. But that's me....
Be careful, you may get harassed as most states have laws about flashing red lights

Distracting from what? If the car is stopping in front of you, what exactly is more important than paying attention to that? If its annoying or catches your attention in any way, that means its doing its job.

Do you ride bikes? Im constantly checking my 6 while at stop lights because drivers have a tendency to "not see us". Any extra visibility is good visibility.

Sounds like a great idea in principle. I'd definitely get it on a motorcycle.

Must be annoying as hell in stop and go traffic though, especially at night. Imagine seeing that flash in front of you every 5-10 seconds. I get annoyed when just one brake light bulb is out on some cars.

At the same time, who cares about how annoyed others get, my own safety is the most important.

The guy in civic's link that posted the schematic really seems to keep up on the laws, and give references to where he monitors the laws if anyone doesn't want to make one but wants to question its legality.

Exactly I would take a ticket and fight it and still come out ahead over the cost of a even a minor rear end collision. And I agree on the bikes. As I ride one I will do anything in my power to be seen and take the heat. Too many crazies. I really need to add an obnoxious one to my bike but since it has LED's I need to research the best brand for that.

glad some of you guys like it and are ordering. Simple install if you have even the slightest technical skill

Cut the Positive Wire going to the 3rd brake light
- Postive IN - Red Wire
- Postive OUT - White Wire
- Ground - Black Wire.

Test then tuck away the wires and module.

Done
