K&N Recharging Kit "How To..."
Brought to u by Eclipse23 and Scooter:
first when u open the Recharger Kit box, there r 2 bottles and directions...u want to start with the cleaner, shown here:
spray liberally about half the bottle all over the filter, shown here:
wait about 10 - 15 minutes to let the cleaner do its thing...we stood ours on the cone tip end, shown here...notice how excess just empties out of the filter:
then wash the filter thoroughly, as shown here...a splash sink works wonders...i'd b careful bout using a hose with a spray attachment...the spray may b too powerful and rip the filter, or the spray may b too little, and u may not get a thorough cleaning...if u use the hose, take any attachments OFF first:
look at how dirty the filter was!!!!
allow the filter to dry for approximately 15-30 minutes or until dry...a blowdryer or placing the filter in a warm place will help speed the process
when you're satisfied the filter is dry, take the other bottle in the box, the spray oil, and apply even coats up and down the length of the filter, shown here...use about half the bottle for the entire filter (u should get approximately 2 recharges per kit):
after spraying the oil on the filter, wait approximately 10 - 20 minutes to let it set in...your finished product will look like this:

keep in mind everyone the biggest pain to the whole process is waiting...u have to wait after u apply the cleaner...u have to wait to let the filter dry after rinsing it out...and u have to wait after applying the oil...other than waiting, the process is easy to follow and logical...should not b too problematic

Make sure there is an uniform red color all the way around the filter or it may not work properly.

it looks like you missed a few spots. I've done this before for my old K&N. The reason the oil is red is so that you know which spots on the filter have been treated and which spots have not.

The wire mesh looks black when you look at it from certain angles, but RED when you look through to the filter.

You have a different kit then me. I have oil in a squeeze bottle. Also I have done 3 square filters, & 1 cone(same size as the AEM one), & still have some left. I also use a light brush(the one included on the little bottles of orange hand soap) & brush the pleats of the filter.

Pep Boys note:
I got my original cleaner kit from a local dealer with a "spare" filter (a couple of my local Pep Boys claimed they didn't carry the “Filter Service Kits.” ). I walked in the Hollywood store a month later and found around ten of them out on the floor.
(A common Pep Boys event: can't-keep-track-of-what's-instock-and-misinformation syndrome)
