I want to not peel out any more!!!

I am tired of peeling out. I keep loosing races because I just sit there and spin my tires. I know this has been talked about many times. What do you guys recommend for the most grip?

Webtoker,

Have you tried using the D1->D2 shift followed by D3? With this method you can partially applied throttle to allow the tire to hook up without spinning prior to flooring it. This method also will bypass the automatic 1-2 shift that can occur with partial throttle, thus bogging your car.

I was thinking about getting the Toyo T1S, Bridgestone Potenza RE730, Yokohama Parada or Kumho Ecsta Supra 712. Still looking for now, lets us know what ya decide.

Skip the yokohamas. Go for either the
PZero, Pole Positions or Pilot Sports.
All mega bank but well worth it.

The pilot sports look like sticky tires, but i'd like to talk to someone that has them first ($250ish a piece).

Pilot Sports were the best performance tire I've owned. A few of my friend will only get Pilots Sports also.

This is how I'd rate em. Pilots seemed a little bit more comfortable and quiter than the Pole Positions.

One of my friends quote.

"For straight performance between AVS & Pilot sports, Pilots are much better. The AVS are great tires, but since I drove both of them back to back, the differences were easy to tell.
AVS is a harder compound and had about the same traction in wet. On dry, they are not as sticky and is easier to slide my rear out with the AVS. Cornering at the limits are a little more scarier on the AVS. Pilots were very predictable and gave good warning before reaching the limit(which was still further than the AVS)."

I got the Nitto 235/40/18 for only $151 each.

Very nice deal, the Nitto will stick like a glue. Toyo T1-S may be better but cost some 195-215 each.

I have the PZeros on my M3 (the ones with the cool little yellow 'P-Zero' on the sidewall). Trust me, these tires will not 'GRAB' the street when its wet. I would recommend the Toyo tires (cheap and great grip). I couldn't get Toyo tires because my rim/tire setup could only use the PZero system . Plus the PZeros are very expensive!

The Potenza RE730 are fucking awesome. They stick like glue. They're almost as good in every category as the P2s and cost about $60-80 less. Not to mention a 300 treadwear rating.

I think everyone knows what I like, but there is something getting missed here.

Depending on the surface, concrete, wet, dry, track, dragstrip, etc, different tires will work better than others.

Toker -- if you are really serious about the "track" -- get some "R" rated rubber.

If you really want to stick for forward direction, get something for just that application.

I'd tell you to get the Toyo's in 17 inch, but I don't know if your trying to make a take off on a rubber covered drag slip or what.

Can you clarify your needs...

Like, dragstrip, steet-racing, acceleration only, or acceleration and cornering, etc.

It is not day and night.

It is like the comment about the P-Zeros, I keep hearing about how great they are in the dry, but suck in the rain. If you don't care about the wet, get the stickiest tire for dry you can get, with a real soft compound. If you could still get them, the old RE-71 "R" rated proxies would probably put a smile on your face, they were so sticky that you could pick up gravel. You would also need to "Tape-up" the inside of your wheel wells from all the stuff the tires would fling at the inside of the "wells".

My main concern is griping on the streets and at the drag strip. I am not to concerned about about wet performance. I would like good cornering though. I for sure want to keep the price under 200 per tire.

toker, basically, my only advice is not to get anything with a treadwear rating BELOW 300.

the only REGRET people get from buying tires, is that most of them will only last you 12 months of driving, or if you live with snow, 2 seasons of no snow driving.

ALL my friends ONLY Get NITTO's over the net, cause its treadwear is 320!!! which is i think the best numbers, as long as the tire itself being AWSOME tires, and like posted before, you will not peel.
ALSO, they are under 150 a tire.

Most people dont get them cause the price being so cheap, scares them away, but their all wrong! Just like the CL-S, its FULLY LOADED, but its also not expensive..

I'm telling you RE730s....the best bang for the buck. If everyone on the board agrees that P2s are the best, then the RE730 is second place (magazine test, and my own testimonial...) and is a better value at less than $200 a pair for 225/45/17. And did I mention treadwear of 300???

You also didn't specify if they were going on stock wheels or different rims.

You might want to try out Clpower's suggestion of the Nitto 555Rs (drag radials).

AND ask the guys AT YOUR DRAG STRIP.

The problem is, everybody has their favorite, and I don't get any "peel" with the Toyo's. But, surfaces and conditions vary (anybody who tells you different is full of it).

So, if you want max stick at the track, you will have to go with a good front-rear contact patch (maybe 17") and find some long wearing "R" rated rubber. Since you don't care about the rain, look for a tire with minimal "voids". You want something that looks as close to a slick as you can get (more rubber).

As I said, until some one does a test of all of these tires, on a variety of surfaces, everybody will tell you what they like (maybe what they don't like).

Every tire works differently depending on how the suspension holds it on the ground. So, look around...

If your willing to give up some tire life, you might want to think about the Nitto 555R.

(These are sticky, but will last about 1/2 as long as the 300 rated tires).

Get the "R" rated tires if you don't care if want the best possible grip on the planet (they are generally only 40 rated, so plan on having a short, fun, time...)
