I am looking for a replacement for the passenger side Heater Blend Door Actuator for my 2001 CL Type S. The shop where I took it is having a problem finding a replacement. Does anyone know a source to buy it from and the part number?

My guess is it's probably part of a larger assembly and cannot be purchased separately.

It might be part of #7 Air Mix Motor assembly (link below) $270.55.

You may have to pull a 'heater core' or 'Heater housing' from LKQ to get what you want cheap.

 

It is the part #7 Air Mix Motor Assembly but the shop I went to can't find a source for that original part. There are after market parts available for about $80 or so. They called it the Heater Blend Door Actuator. The problem is figuring out which one is the right fit. They called Autozone and they had one that they said was for an Accord and it looked right but they were not sure if it would fit. They had another that they said was for my Acura but it appeared to be missing the nylon lever arms. I'm trying to find someone who has ordered it and got a proper replacement.

They are both from the same manufacturer; however, there are two part #'s and both cover CL model years 01-03 as well as other acura & honda models.
They both should fit your 2001 CL.

There are two assemblies on the OEM part display #6 & #7. That's where the confusion is and explains the two different part #'s above.

 

Are you sure it's the motor that is bad (no movement at all) , and not the gearing (loud clicking sound)?

If it's the gearing, it can be repaired at home; I did that using this thread as a guide (it's for the blender air mix door, but the problem/solution still apply):

If it's indeed the motor (or you already did that repair), I would try these places in this order:

• A pick and pull yard (definitely the least expensive option)
• ebay (second least expensive, and pretty much sourced from the same place)
• LKQ online (sourced from the same place, marked up slightly more than ebay)

By the way; this part is also found on the 99-03 TL...

 

The motor still works. There is knocking and grinding from the levers and the gears. I figured it was the gears. I have seen the assembly on eBay for $35. I got the car back. It is not fixed. The shop charged me for diagnosis after I had told them I though it was the gears. They confirmed that I was right after keeping my car all day. The confirmation should have taken all of 5 minutes. Then they said that they found the part for $600 from their supplier. I told them to find the part somewhere else like Autozone for $80 and I took the car back while they sort it out. I might just do the work myself if they don't come back with the right part.

 

Thanks for the link. The fix shows that the arms come off. This shop told me that they don't. The fix also shows the shape of the spindle which the shop also tried to tell me was different and wouldn't fit. I am going to let them know what I think of their service. We'll see if they come back with the right part and fix it or not.

 

Don't hold it too hard against them. sometimes some of these things are highly specialized and unless it was a honda/acura specialty shop I wouldn't expect them to know this; or even be willing to repair it as most shops do not want to accept liability for repairing what's normally considered a non-repairable part.

Yeah I talked with the owner. He doesn't want the liability of repairing this part or of installing a part that didn't come from his supplier. He wants to mark up their part to $600. That is way too much. He offered to give me back the diagnosis fee of $150 as there wasn't really an time spent on that. I will probably take that and figure out what to do. I found the part from an Acura dealer. They want $325. If I could figure out which after market part will fit I could get it for anywhere from $35 to $115 or so. I've done a lot of searching and can't tell which is the right one. I'm tempted to pull the part and try rotating the gear and see if that works. Otherwise I'll have to buy the part from the dealer.

 

Oh man...if you haven't pulled it yet and rotated that gear in there, you definitely should.

Best $325 you never spent!
