It might be cheaper to buy it from a Honda dealer instead of a Acura one.

my experince with Honda and Acura trans fluids is that they have some different additives that support the shift characteristics. when you buy other "standard" replacement fluid, you may notice a difference. imo, i would only use the acura / honda fluid.

Dude, you have a great dealership if you can get it from them for $2.85. Everywhere I have looked the price is more than double what you pay.

I took my CL-S to a City Garage that a friend of mine owns, and he told me he wouldn't touch my transmission with anything other than Acura ATF, and recommended that Acura itself do the work...

There is an excellent DIY from Jens on the board. It requires 9 quarts. However, per ACura Customer Care, make sure you save the reciepts both from buying the Ac/Honda ATF and the shop doing the labor if other then Ac dealership.

I would like to hear if any who used synthetic like Amsoil have gotten any crap regarding the warranty.

Honda ATF bought from Honda dealer is as good as the one bought from Acura dealer. The manual says to use Honda ATF, so if its says "Acura ATF", its just branding.... I remmber getting coolant from Acura dealer that said "Honda Coolant", then they started selling "Acura coolant", and the small print said "good for both Acura and Honda vehicles"

When I got my ATF fluid changed...I went to synthetic...it shifts much better than it used to.

EDIT: I asked Acura of America if synthetic Amsoil would void tranny warranty and they said NO. They said regarding how the trannies are locking up, we're better off with a brand that is just as good as Honda/Acura ATF or better.

This is a statement that should be stickied

This is the point that I've made in several threads. Z-1 spec fluid is just that. Many people on these boards are looking for subtle improvements over factory performance. I've wondered why Amsoil which states that it meets or exceeds Z-1 specs is not more widely embraced

I think they are just afraid of the warranties being voided because they don't know. Acura is more than willing to share info as long as you pick and pry towards the right people.

I use Amsoil ATF,, the trans was changed out at 89k miles,, Acura didn't care what ATF I was using,, I even put on a ATF cooler,, and have headers/intake. they just see thaat the trans is bad and give you a new one.

I can ship to your door Amsoil Trans fluid, $9 / qt plus shipping. It can be mixed so if you don't do a Nine qt flush just drain the sump / about 3 qts, and add 3 qts Amsoil. Do this every 20k miles and your car will be more than protected from trans oil failures. I have four cars and only use Amsoil Products. oil / filters / and trans oil.
