Damn Yellowtop!

Hey guys,

Had my yellowtop (rated 750 CCA) since January, when I got my system installed. 2 Amps, JL 400/4, 600/1...see the sig. Recently in the past two weeks, I had some issues starting my car, which would eventually turn over after multiple attempts. I had my battery checked which showed only 227 CCAs! So I'm gonna return the POS. It was so weak they couldn't check my starter. Now it just "clicks" but doesn't turn over. Any thoughts? I'm returning it for a new one, but in the meantime I'm gonna buy some Autozone duralast pos while i wait so that I can get the hell outta Irene's path if I have to!

What do y'all think... Could it have something to do with my system?

Stay dry and safe guys...

At least you have the warranty to fall back upon.

do u have a capacitor for the sub, which is hooked up to the battery?

cause if it's not hold it's charge it'll constantly rob ur battery and that'd kill it prematurely for sure. I had that happen on last car.

on that same car however my starter was going on me and would only turn over if the battery was at PEAK POWER.. i.e i needed a boost to start the car. so i thought it was the battery, replaced and it was actually the starter. mind u i didn't check the battery as u did.

but theoretically i don't think the starter should click unless it's got no juice.. like when ur dash lights go all wonky.

do u have an under drive pulley? cause the car doesn't produce full power when at idle which would help kill the battery early too.

You need a cap for sure!

Don't knock the battery I ran my red top for 5 days when my crank pulley sheered off and I was with out my alternator. Optima is the best on the market.

But your going to continue to have the same problem if you do not get a capacitor.

Dang, that's what I asked the audio installer and he said it wasn't necessary. I should have gone with my hunch. Will order one today and have it installed while my yellow top gets replaced. I'm not dogging optima. I just was wondering what the deal was and if I got a lemon...

Thanks all

Also, I'm starting to get some of that whining/whirring noise with revving, which is making the expensive system sound like a cheap pos when the volume is down. Is that a grounding issue or would a capacitor help this out as well?

Sounds like your grounds arn't very good. When you get your new battery have them check that your alternator is up to snuff too. I've seen plenty of alternators kill batteries.

also if u run ur power and speaker wires together sometimes it can disrupt the frequency.

when i did my old system i was sure to wire the power and speaker wires seperately. it's a bitch but it's how it should be done.

I have had nothing but problems with blue tops and yellow tops. Don't waste your money on a cap either. Get a batcap. You can't even compare the two!!! My boat uses 3 blue tops (3 motors) and they were replaced several times until I started hooking them up to a trickle charger every time I get home. Never happened again. They don't like being discharged...

Absolutely right.... Definitely going to be a bad ground.

You say blue top? What kind of boat do you have and what problems was it giving you?

My Pops has one on his bayliner and it runs flawless!

I own the lightest 25 ft Talon Offshore Raceboat ever made. I have 3 375 hp Simon Motorsports Outboards currently. The blue tops didn't like sitting at all. If you keep a triclkle charger on them they will be fine. A friend of mine with a Baja and a huge stereo had the same problem. Good thing Sam's has a great warranty on these batteries.

Link to video of my boat. Back when I had 2 motors.

You know now that you said that when I was deployed for 8 months and left my car at my Dad's he said he had to put a trickle on it because like you said. They do not like to sit.

Good info and nice boat brother!

You couldn't have said it any better brother... His days are numbered as president and the American People will see through the smoke and will elect a much better individual. Thank you my friend!

dude the US needs to re do it's entire monetary system. almost 70 trillion in overall debts. something needs to be done (and not just re raise the debt ceiling all the frigging time). blaming a president for a flawed monetary system isn't right either. the president is just a puppet for the real people who run the world. And did u know the US monetary is not federally regulated which is what led to this mess.

the federal reserves is as federal as FEDERAL EXPRESS..

aint that a joke
