Crank Pulley Bolt Questions

I'm going to be installing my Option crank pulley this weekend. Does anyone have the TQ specs for the crank pulley bolt?

Also, for those of you with lightweight pulleys, how the hell do you tighten the bolt? The new pulley doesnt have a place for me to use the tool on, like the stock pulley. Any suggestions?

TIA

Try throwing it into 3rd gear and have someone stand on the brake while you torque it.

Tried getting my pulley off today with a breaker bar on the crank, a wrench on the accessory pulley, and a foot on the break. No dice!

The bolt holding the crank pulley wasn't going anywhere! I'm going to resort to having a professional do it.

Put a breaker par on the bolt so end of the breaker bar is on the ground and turn the starter on with the ingnition for a second and then back off. It will pup the bolt loose guaranteed. Sounds shady but most mechanics do it anytime they have trouble with it.

Might try this technique. What side of the ground does the bar rest. towards the front of the car, or towards the rear of the car? I dont want that wrench wreaking havoc in the wheel well, brakes, susp, spinnin around.

If the car is on jack stands or just one under the front right of the car just put a breaker bar long enough so the end of it will either rest on the ground or on the pad of a jack behind the axle towards the rear of the car. I run the breaker bar against the lower arm on the rear side of it and rest the end of the breaker bar on the ground or use a floor jack to hold it tight in place then go hit the starter for a second. If it is all secure and you only hit the starter for a second you will be fine. FYI, when that bolt pops loose you will hear a loud crack. You will think you broke something but all is well. Its quick, easy, and painless.

I would just go to a shop have them pull the wheel hit it with the impact, reinstall the nut to a managable tightness where your can get it off when you get home,if buget minded. The nut wont come off there made to acually stay on the way the crank rotates.might cost 10-20 bucks and you will save the life of you starter.Only shops that do that are half ass shops where you dont want your car in the first places.Trust me,I've work for guys like that before. They asure you everythings all good while your there and as soon as you leave they dont give a dam

He's right me and a friend did that a week ago to change my crank pully. I thought he was crazy when he told me the procedure but I trusted him since he's my personal mechanic.

Yea, the starter method is the only way in my opinion. It worked on the third crank for me.

using the Starter will work but when the starter gets juice and dont turn the energy has to go somewhere.Thats a fact. You can weld brushes to your rotor, burn wires right off,or even cause a fire. But that up to how shaddy tree mechanic you are.Not meaning you civic, anybodythat want to try this method.I bet if anyone frys they stuff after atempting this wont post it.What do you think a shop would say if you got your car back and your starter didnt work. Its not our fault,"we never touched your starter".So before you think you got a heavnly bolt cracker, know the down side to this method.I would never. spen the 10-20 like I said before and save your other equipment. It will fail on its own no need to help it into the grave.

yea, i tried starter thing 3 times. never worked. it's scary to hear your car do that and see the dash blink the "!". i am going to put mine on in a few weeks when my friend has time. we'll be using the honda removal tool and an impact gun with 4-500 lbs of torque. he swears it'll work. for anyone trying, i'd say try the starter as a last resort. first do the breaker bar and removal tool. then impact gun and removal tool.
hey, anyone use belt dressing on their belts?

When I did the pulleys the only pulley that was difficult at all was the alt pulley.Thats because there was no room to get something threw the pulley to put presure on the case to hold the pulley from turning to crack the nut.so it had to be unbolted.just a set back in time thats all no difficulty with no pulleys useing correct tools.I dont know if these are underdriving pulleys you guys are installing, but if they areand your putting on new belts the left motor mounts going to have to be taken loose and you will have to jack up the left side of the motor to get the new belt on.just for a heads up.

I can see how that could be possible. But Ive never heard of that actually happening. As I said, its a last resort sort of thing.

I tried the crank pulley removal tool and a breaker bar, then the pulley tool and a 900lb-ft impact wrench. That didnt work. Then I torched the motherfucker for a good 5 minutes (it was nice and rosey red) and hit it again, still didnt work. The first two times I blipped the starter, it didnt break it lose, but I didnt get any lights on the dash. The third time I heard a crack, and the bolt finally broke lose.

Yea, the bracket that goes from the mount to the engine needs to be loosened. Its two 14mm bolts on the bracket itself, and 1 19mm (or was it 17mm?) bolt on the mount itself. The swivel it up and out of your way. There was no need to jack the engine up. The passenger side mount isnt a load bearing mount.

You can see the bracket Im talking about in this picture:

Me? Yea. I broke one of the bolts that held the aforementioned bracket to the motor, so I had to order a new one from Honda. It was a bitch putting that on, you have to remove all three timing belt covers and try to work in such a small area.

Oh ok...I should have mine in a few days.

I'm thinking now that I should just replace my timing belt at the same time.

Plus the car is 8 years old, Honda recommends 7 years or 105k.

So there it goes to sit in the pool of un-installed parts...

Well it would be bigger if I had a garage...

I just have a small studio apartment but I had to take out my leather couches...

So now when people come over they have to sit on my bed...because I have no more decent furniture...lol

Parts are taking up about 1/3 of my living space...my GF hates my car...lol

Lol. Hood table!

I have the front end for my motorcycle in my closet along with a whole bunch of parts to put on it. The garage is mainly Civic parts. The bedroom is CL territory. I really need to sell some shit. Gauge clusters, fuel setups, motors, manifold, 3 sets of tires, 2 sets of rims, parts to my old Civic I no longer have, rare BB4 Prelude parts, the list goes on. At least my living room and kitchen arent overpopulated... yet
