alternator belt pulley tensioner
My alternator pulley tensioner is making a grinding noise at at 1000 rpms which then goes away or is masked by the engine. Anyone have one replaced and what did it cost? Would not fixing it cause any damage to the belt or alternator?

Thanks, It sounds like metal on metal rather than a belt squeal and does with or w/o the air conditioner being engaged. That's what my mechanic diagnosed anyway. The alternator seeems to be working since I always have plenty of juice. He ordered the Honda tensioner for $70 (interchangeable) rather than the acura unit that Acura of Memphis said cost $115 although it's on the net at Sunnyside Acura in New Hampshire for around $70.00 too.

that pulley can go bad.... get it replaced before it breaks and leaves you stranded....
if it breaks or locks up.- the alternator will not charge the battery and the car will not run for very long.

Finally got the part 75.00. With a new belt 14.00 and labor $60, sales tax 12.00 and some environmental fee 5.00. Total=167.00--- No more grinding noise.
